i can explain why that is happening, there are certain files that the PS3 can play, for example MP4 files, and in this case the AVI files. On the other files the computer is pretty much rendering the video to a format that the PS3 can recognize on the fly. which lags the computer due processing power that is needed to convert the video. This is called "Transcoding." Imagine you have a video and you uploaded to youtube. Well youtube converts that video in to a universal format that everyone can watch. This is happening in on your computer as you select the file you want to watch. Infact you can monitor transcoding status on the java media server under the status tab.

I think ed has some converter program that he found a few days ago. I actually prefer having the computer transcode, than converting it. The reason is that converting a video that you got from the internet is very troublesome compared to a program that converts it for you on the fly as you watch it, specially if you have alot of videos to convert.

Tone down the quality of transcoding, and limit the bandwidth on your network depending if you're 802b or g.
the reason why some files play fine and others don't is cause the PS3 is doing the work of transcoding rather than your computer

So I finished 3 1080p quality downloads. They were about 11gb each, so a good 3-4 hours for each movie to d/l.

I start the movie up and they are all german soundtrack. HA!!!! Whoever ripped it left all the other soundtracks out. good for Karen and Jerry, not so good for me.
