Anyone heading into the Snow this weekend?
Supposedly been dumping in the Sierras with more to come. Mammoth got 2-4 FEET in the last 24 HOURS? Insane. Might try and head up this weekend if I can get my winter shoes on. Subaru weather for sure.

Wouldn't risk it man...I almost got hit by a driver last year who couldn't stop...I saw her coming in my rear view mirror and gunned it to get out of the way. Not sure how that woulda worked with summer tires on.

Werd. People are ****ing stupid. Hey I have 4x4 or AWD I can smash up there with whatever. Summer tires... sure... Bald tires... meh whatever. That **** is going to fail at some point and you're stupid to try. Trust me. I've done both over the years.
There's a reason for this article...
Tire Tech Information - Don't Drive Summer Performance Tires in Cold Temperatures
It's not all about tread depth and pattern. Summer tires harden up and turn into hockey pucks.

Anyone else on Blizzaks? I am running 205/55-16 WS80's and had some spooky "why aren't we stopping" moments yesterday in rain on these. I verified my pressures before taking off so that was not an issue. I am thinking it might be because they are still so new. Will put some more miles on carefully I guess. I don't remember this happening last time. Basically came down a hill in El Granada, and my brake pedal turned into a thing that just made ABS noise for a couple seconds.
And yeah when I lived in Reno, I took my SAAB out for a couple miles on the RE760's to show a buddy. It was so slick, very hard to control. Put the Blizzaks on and it's more or less like driving in the rain on normal tires. Pretty amazing. Still have to be careful of course, but the improved traction and shorter stopping distances in snow are significant.
Have been thinking it would be cool to head up to the snow to try this setup out but don't want to get stuck due to other people's stuff. Talked to a few people at work who are heading up. All of them assured each other that "M+S" means you don't need chains. One of those "well we've always been fine" scenarios again. Sheesh.

I put around another 150 miles on the tires over the weekend and they feel great now. So I guess it was just that they were still too new. Sure is awesome going through standing water on these though - doesn't even flinch.
