check engine light

I had this posted in the Naturally Aspirated forum as well, but no response so far... seems like there might be a little more techincal help inside here....anyhooo...

I was driving home tonight and noticed my Check Engine light has come on my 98 RS. I also noticed that this happened EXACTLY at 52,000 miles. The car seems to be running fine (nothing acting out of the ordinary) and I'm guessing/hoping that this is simply a normal event tripped by the odometer.... is this normal?

revit,
Check your gas cap first that is the most common. Maybe call the service department at a local dealer and set up an appointment because there are about 300 different codes.

No codes are tripped by the odometer. Feel free to come by our shop and i'll read the code for free or have Autozone read the code for you and give me a call.

the light is out now..... I 'll still probably bring it in sometime soon and have you guys take a look at it. It's due for oil too. I'm in Broomfield and commute to/from Englewood everyday. Are you huys open on Saturdays or eveningns? I usually don't get back to Broomfield 'til about 4:30 so I could be in Boulder by about 5 on any given workday....

one other quick question.... i had a very small chip in lower center my front windshield that has just recently turned into a crack that spans nearly the entire width near the bottom ....is this dangerours? Can I keep it like this for a while (til Spring) or should I get it taken care of ASAP. Could the whole thing just collapse on me out of the blue or would it be more likely to just spread & crack worse? How much am I looking at to replace it? Thanks for all of your help and I will probably see you soon!

P.S. I took my Scooby out to play in the snow today and it was AWESOME!!! I've never been in a car that dealt with such nasty conditions so well. Went through some pretty deep stuff wothout ANY hitches. i LOVE this car!

You know, despite what Brett said, my CEL came at right about 52k. Interesting.

revit- we're open until 6pm (techs get off at 5). Let me know if you'd like me to stay a little late to meet up with you.

Bret, I called today (spoke to you briefly) & tried to get scheduled for oil change and inspection (I'm going to be going on a large roadtrip to Tennessee in June & would like to know if anything needs attention before that). However, they wouldn't schedule anything past 3pm and me making it in to Boulder from work (in Englewood) anytime before 4:30 (at the earliest IF traffic is good, etc.).... is a problem for me. Is there anyone that you know of that could help me out? I simply don't trust places like Econo-Lube etc.....

Thanks Bret. I went ahead with getting the oil done locally this time. It was well past due & work is getting really busy for me & I simply can't get into Boulder early enough any time soon...). But I do still want to bring it in sometime (before driving to Tennessee & back in June) to have you give it a look and see if anything should be attended to before the trip. Plus it's creeping up on 60K.... I'll let you know when I get a chance to come in (probably in May). I do appreciate your offer to go out of your way. Thanks again.
