I know exactly what you mean. If only I had a "license to choke necks" I'd be a much happier person after dealing with users/clients.

I hope you won't know what I mean when I say that "SMOKE CLOUDS FROM THE WRX TAILPIPE" contains glorious amounts of what is known at teh suk.

His turbo is blowing oil.

Not sure why. He is trouble shooting it.

Even if the seal if bad, no biggie, since VF30 isn't BB and easily fixed.

Richard, let me know how it goes.

The cause for bad seal can be a number of things.

1. Overspinning it
2. Junk fell in oil during install
3. Too high oil pressure
4. Return line kinked
5. Oil too thin
6. Bad turbo

No really a way to find out what caused it (if it is the case). It is fixable, so no biggie.

Hey Richard sorry to hear your having problems. I'll check on that thing for you tomorrow.

OBTW Imprezer, are you going to make me a moderator or what? At least give me an avatar or something. God knows ditch***** won't do it. Even friggin Angry Dan has one. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Pleaze!

about the problem though,
... Knowing the way Richard drives, we can rest assured it wasn't from overspining it, ... and I'm pretty sure the install was done with attention to detail. I hope you figure out what it is Richard.
Give me a call tomorrow if you want some help, I'm off work.

Here's my wonderful day:

1. WORKED. <- already containing suck
2. Get phone call - Erin gets run off the road by a careless old Korean lady in a brand new luxo-cruiser Benz
3. Rush down there to see if she's okay and/or the car is fine - they both are *phew*
4. Wait while the tow truck takes her car away (no spare - don't ask)
5. While we're sitting in the WRX she's crying/venting/yelling/decrying women drivers - I see something weird in my rear view.
6. Upon closer inspection it looks like somebody kicking up dust while they're walking.
7. Upon closer closer inspection it looks like smoke.
8. F*CK.
9. Rev the motor.
10. Puff of smoke.
11. Rev harder.
12. Bigger puff.
13. F*CK F*CK.
14. Check things out -

a. Motor is idling okay
b. Drives okay.
c. Every press of the gas gives me CLOUDS of smoke (the car dissappears briefly after a slight rev-fest)

15. F*CK F*CK F*CK
16. Call Wes on the 2-way.
17. Cry like a little b*tch.
18. He comes down.
19. Call the tow truck.
20. Call Alex / Imprezer.
21. Cry like a big b*tch.
22. Alex is smart - he's cool - he calms me down.
23. Ride home in a tow-truck staring at my cool JDM headlights in the rearview.
24. F*CK.
25. Park the car and stew all night.

I'm going to do some investigation tomorrow.

I don't think (read: I FREAKIN' HOPE) it's the motor. I mean - as Sean so eloquently put it - I drive like a *****. I don't beat the thing - and I'm only running 17.5psi on a VF30 with all the supporting fueling mods AND toluene-fortified gas with a 94 octane rating.

I do think (read: I FREAKIN' HOPE) it's the turbo. While that still sucks, and my car is down, and I inconvenience other people, and still drop cash out of my pocket it's better than a motor!

Alex is being WAY cool about the whole thing and said he knows a good turbo rebuilder on the mainland.

With that being said - I don't know what I could have done to screw up the installation. Believe it or not, I was a dealership mechanic and have been a hot rodder/tinkerer/tuner for the past 15 years.

I work steady, but I'm methodical - so while I get things done at a decent clip I usually triple-check everything.

I pre-lubed the turbo, I checked my list twice, I know who has been naughty and nice.

My thoughts:
1. Maybe a kink/crush/bend in the oil drain hose (PLEASE)
2. Maybe a kink/crush/bend in a PCV hose (please?)
3. Maybe a nice cracked piston ring land (F*CK).

Thanks for the support everybody! I'll keep you all posted here on how the diagnosis goes...

G'night...
