Virginia Tech... shooter's motivation?

Not to detract from the seriousness and sadness of this tragedy, but whodunnit?

Bloodthirsty islamic loon, or a kid who had his a$$ kicked too many times? No info on the murderer is yet known other than the fact he's burning in hell right now.

It says on Drudge that he was heavily armed and looking for his girlfriend. He is said to have been Asian.

Yeah, it really looks like they screwed the pooch on the response to this one... it started around 7:00am apparently, and went until noon-ish.

Imagine how much worse this could have been had it been an organized event.

RIP to all those involved.

Anti-gun activists are going to have a field day with this one... rumors are the gunman had 2 9mm pistols. People must have been sitting ducks for that kind of number (33 killed with as many wounded). That, or this guy was dropping empty mags all over the place. The fatality rate could increase with that many wounded.

CNN just posted an online question asking what impact this will have on future VTech enrollment. What kind of stupid question is that?!

And it's already begun... ****.

When will people learn that the type of weapon, amount of ammo (etc) isn't the issue. I know I could be very proficient with one pistol (not two) and a handful of non-high-cap magazines.

If anything, the fact these some of these students were lined-up and shot execution style is grounds for allowing guns on their person.

How about this: Yes. This shows the violence that can occur when someone has access to cars.

Or this: Yes. This shows the violence that can occur when someone has access to drugs and alcohol.

Or maybe this: Yes. This shows the violence that can occur when someone has access to tools and equipment.

It just keeps going.

I think you should have to get a psychological evaluation, training (with certification of proficiency), and a very long waiting period (closer to a year than a week) to own a gun. Even a driver's licence should require a psychological evaluation...

Inconveniencing those of us who don't break the law doesn't make us safer.

5:1 the kid didn't own any of the guns he used in the crime. Legally anyway.

Do you think this incident is a reason to pass stricter gun control legislation?

No. Violent shootings are isolated incidents and it's irresponsible to link them to gun control. 24,513
Yes. This shows the violence that can occur when someone has access to handguns. 11,111

A gun is a tool.
More people are killed each year from alcohol, cars than from guns.
Why not ban cars?

I think it does. Especially the psych eval. Too nuts, no gun. Likely to go nuts, no gun.

It's purely speculation that the guy had illegal guns. In Virginia, it's easy to get guns legally...just a background check, and I'd imagine anyone that is at VT would pass it since colleges don't let felons in anyway...I guess that's assuming that he's a student, but I think that's a safe assumption in this case. We'll see.

I think it should be much harder than it is to have the priveledge of driving. Just like I think it should be much harder that it is to have the priveledge of owning a gun.

And yes, it is a tool. The purpose of this type of tool is to kill people. Killing people is illegal, so shouldn't the tool be illegal? I don't think so entirely, but the logic of 'it's a tool' doesn't hold a lot of water...

...besides, I didn't even suggest banning guns, I just suggested it should be much harder to get them...
