Can someone please post a mathematical formula of how to mix Toluene! I've looked at the one here: http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html and when I plug the numbers in I get a lower octane rating than 92 if I use a half a tank of 92 (8 Gallons)

Their formula is:

Q: How much toluene should I use per tank of gas?

A: Octane ratings can be very easily calculated by simple averaging. For example, the tank of an Audi A4 1.8TQ is 15.6 gallons. Filling it with 14.6 gallons of 92 octane and 1 gallon of toluene (114 octane) will yield a fuel mix of:

(14.6 * 92) + (1 * 114) / 15.6 = 93.4

This would mean that I would use:

(8 * 92) + (1.5 * 114) / 15.9 = 57.04

Now if i run a full tank (with their formula) i get the following:

(14.9 * 92) + (1.5 * 114) / 15.9 = 96+ octane

Should WE be using a full tank of gas instead of half a tank?

If there are any other mathematical formulas out there please post!

you're dividing by 15.9 when you should be dividing by 9.5.

Whoa! why 9.5 I though that the 15.9 is the total capacity of your gas tank!

If you're only putting 8 gallons of gasoline and 1.5 gal of toluene, then it doesn't matter what the capacity is. The point is that you need to divide by the total gallons of fuel that is in the tank.

According to how much you're putting in, you will have about 95.5 octane.

The formula assumes 1 gallon of toulene for every 15.6 gallons. If you have a half tank (~8 gallons), the formula would be:

(7.5 * 92) + (.5*114)/8 = 93.4
