Creation of iclub/nasioc independent club
Posted a similar message on Nasioc.com.
I'm proposing the creation of a tri-state (quad-state maybe) subaru owners club. I believe this was tried a few times in the past with no success. I think there is a sufficient number of members to make some kind of formal organization worthwhile. The i-club/nasioc break up has already caused somewhat of a rift in the tri-state members. I'm not saying we should create a new message board, nor should we pick a single message board to use, but that as a whole we should move from being locked into any single board to being an independant club with elected officials, etc. Any suggestions, opinions, ideas?

Sounds like a good idea to me, but getting organized without a single board or an all new site would be difficult. I don't know that there's a rift within the tri-state members, but more of a sense of having to scramble between 2 boards.
Maybe one of the first items of discussion should be a vote by the members to decide between the 2 boards, so as to make 1 of the 2, the "official" tri-state board for club business.

Check out the thread on nasioc, it's been somewhat active with lots of good ideas.
There will be a club site, that is a given. However, it is still debatable whether there will be a message board, if so, I'm proposing it be mostly a members-only system to help keep costs down until such time when expansion is possible (and/or necessary).

I know a certain vendor who would be willing to partially sponsor (or maybe fully sponsor) this if everyone would actually make good use of it.
Those of you that want to host,are able to host,or can host this need to step forward and say yes or no and what kind of cost would be involved to do this.
Remember that there are many benefits to having a actual "car club".
Plus we could use the club to tie all these message boards together and have them be easier to get to.
Instead of going to i-club, then checking NASIOC, then looking at club WRX, and finally RS25.com and so on you could simply go to the club site and have links there that would open pages perhaps in the actual club and go back and forth.
It would also finally give the tri-state a true identity.We would and could be the largest club in the country.(beware PCA and BMW)

though i dont see why we can't just horde up i-club and turn this tristate forum into one that links all the other forums we look at

I am going to turbo Bay Area into something larger than it is. In my plans making a special site which is more personalized to the local area. If you want to do the same, I will do the same for you. Basically, you will still use this forum, use all the other forums, but have a site that I will host that will have all your local content and events and stuff. All very easy to update and navigate. I will make it so that it responds to tri.i-club.com or anythign else you like. I would love to keep you all here and maintain i-Club, but just expand it with reginal sectors.

The point is to establish a club that is a both an *independent organization* and a *legal entity*. We're still in the early stages of organization, much to early too establish any partnerships with other organizations.
Alex, if you are proposing hosting a a forum or club message board, I ask that you please wait until the club is organized and has an elected board. At that point you would be able to submit a proposal to the club, or we would submit a request for proposal to you, *IF* and only *IF* the members vote and decide in favor of that.
If anyone is interested in attending a meeting and voicing your opinion, the meeting is tentatively scheduled for December 8th, the location is yet to be determined.

Some more background information to help out:
Here is the NASIOC thread, it has been the most active of the threads that I have posted:

Interested parties, please read through the NASIOC thread even though you might not care for NASIOC or frequent the board. Similar threads were posted on i-club.com, clubwrx.net, and nasioc.com. Threads were not posted on other message boards that are not active tri-state boards.
A big part of the club is organizing into a real club/organization, not just another message board or website. The club would be run as a formal organization with a member elected board, etc. (If you want particulars, we will run according to Roberts Rules, http://www.constitution.org/rror/rror--00.htm).
I strongly feel that our organization be an independent organization similar to the PCA (Porsche Club of America) structure. We will most certainly be seeking incorporation (yet to be discussed) after a board is elected.

Understand that everyone will have preferences as far as the message boards they frequent, their group of friends (or not), etc. I don't think the goal is not to push preferences down anyone's throat. If you like i-club, hang out on i-club, if you like nasioc, hang out there, clubwrx, etc, it doesn't matter. However, these things lack real formal organization. A "bunch of friends on a website" lacks real recognition, it can't do they same things as an organization like the PCA can do.

Sounds like a plan. I know I don't have time to read all the posts from i-club, NASIOC & clubWRX. Would be nice to go to one place and get all the local news and eliminate some of the responses telling us to go to an autobody shop in Iceland or California. Could possibly bring the Mid-Atlantic states closer together as a group. Perhaps then we could have better control of the vendors we let post,and weed out the bad ones. The sites turn into a money issue rather than a quality issue and start catering to the owners instead of the forum members, it would be nice to eliminate that.
