IMO, the carpet is mostly just there for sound. You cut out 3/4 of it, you've achieved tin can status. What's the point of keeping that last 1/4?

Those are usually all or nothing rules.

The class I'm in, I have to keep full interior/upholstered seats. Next class up, I can take everything out.

remove steering wheel = weight redux
remove suspension = 2g sustained in a school zone in the rain
remove carpet = need aero to keep car down on the ground from lightness
