Makes total sense to thread the nut or bolt in a few rotations by hand before torqueing anything down.

It seemed like it was going on alright as I hand tightened them with only the socket. Since the socket didn't fit well within the lug space, I took them off.
Once I got the bad lugnut off I saw the tread inside the lugnut was pretty much gone and bunched up. The bolt looked alright and even make small attempt to try another one on it but it wasn't grabbing so I left it alone didn't want to kill another one.

Looks like I'll be doing yet another wheel swap. At least the wheels are clean now. I could try out the black Rotas we have with Blizzaks but probably not the best in this summer heat.

If 08-14 WRX wheel bearings are anything like the LGT might just be best to replace the whole thing not just the stud.

Found a write up. Should be fairly straightfoward. Looks like the 08+ got easier don't require the ABS sensor having to be pulled out. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2396434 (is it bad to link to Nabisco )
- Remove wheel, caliper, rotor.
- Line up bad stud to gap. Hammer it out.
- Replace stud and reverse steps above.

it's really straightforward. The hardest part is finding a proper spacer and nut to pull the new stud on. don't use a lug nut unless you want to fail again

I've used lug nuts before on my altima with no issue when seating the bolt. Done this too many time. I probably sheered off about 8+ studs on that car. Either driving too hard or a testament to Nissan quality.
I remember one time I realized after a lot of rattling, that one of my wheels was only held on by 1 lugnut. I have know I idea what happened. I was amazed I got home even on the towtruck.
