Good morning, friends! 
On my bucket list is attending the Merrie Monarch festival in Hilo, Hawai'i. Every year around Easter, the festival's purpose "is the perpetuation, preservation, and promotion of the art of hula and the Hawaiian culture through education. The festival is considered the world's premier forum for people of all ages to display their skills and knowledge of the art of ancient and modern hula."
They have competitions for group kane (men) and group wahine (women) performances in both kahiko (traditional) and 'auana (modern) hula, and individual performances for the Miss Aloha Hula competition.
The amount of preparation and time commitment that goes into learning these hula is mind-blowing. Some competitors train with their halau (dance school) for years often starting from just after they learn to walk, all culminating in this one performance.
