Moving back to Sacramento!
Wife is done with residency in June, starting at UCD Med Center.
I am done with Masters (IS) , and starting with Ph.D. at UCD (CS). (Probably, I am also considering taking a position in industry instead)
Looking for houses in Folsom/GoldRiver/FairOaks.
Anything to be cautious of in this area? I have only lived in Davis and Roseville, not as familiar with this area.
Pic of my WRX just because

Those are nice areas, but a bit of a hike from UCDMC and even further from the campus. If you don't mind the somewhat hellacious commute, all three are excellent options.
It may or may not be a more expensive option, but you could check out Land Park/Curtis Park/Tahoe Park area. Very nice and upcoming neighborhoods close to UCDMC and a quick jaunt down 50/80 to the campus.

Gold River is nice, but the traffic can be troublesome from there to the Freeway (US 50) as it is one of the main arteries over the river.
Folsom can be nice and there is plenty of shopping not too far away depending what part of Folsom.
Fair Oaks is quiet and set back from the busy areas but freeway access could pose troublesome at traffic hours.

Commuting from those areas to UCDMC will be a *****. My wife and I just bought a house in Fair Oaks and she works at KVIE, just north of Downtown. We love our neighborhood and we're close to the bike trails which is another plus. Hazel can be a pain in afternoon traffic but it's nowhere near as bad as Sunrise. We looked at the same areas you suggested but ruled out Folsom since it would've been too far of a commute for her.
We found the housing market in Gold River to be very weird... Houses that realistically should have been listed at $350k were at $400k and it didnt seem like many houses were renovated. Maybe the homeowners think since the neighborhoods are nicely kept they don't need to keep things current inside? It was weird. We passed.

I'll definitely have to reconsider if the commute will be 1.5 hours for her though. I will be commuting on my motorcycle most days, so not as critical for me. :-)

just bought a house in the two rivers/river bend area in Natomas. I love it here because it's a very secluded neighborhood with zero crime and it's right near the freeway. All the homes are 2005 and up builds.
