Kinda how people can tell teh difference between 02/03 - 04/04 - 06/07 ect.
Headlights/tail lights are the biggest giveaway, at least to narrow it down within a few years. Also the rear window/windshield and fends/hood.
Super beetles are 1973+, not my thing.
My favorites are late 50's to mid 60's.
I owned a 73 for maybe a year and sold it for my 69.

Rear windows and windshields (mostly the rear) changes size/shape as well.
The slit windows and oval windows are desired and getting harder to find for a decent price.
Body will get wider/taller, but nothing drastic. Overall, they "look" the same.
