the psychology of $19.95

someone explain why pricing an item a few cents makes such a huge difference?

e.g. on sale now $29,995
does society still psychologically fall for tha trick?

It's all about price points. People have the tendency to break things down in 5's. Think about it. The way it was explained to me back in college was using the analogy of time. You always say it takes me 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 minutes to get to work. You never go any more specific than that. So, by lowering the price point to the nearest nickel you subconciencely think that it's been lowered by one price point. Anyway, I hope most people really are smarter than this but, studys have proven it.

i always tell people that ill be there in 4 minutes, and they get confused at first then they just ask why i dont say 5 minutes and i tell them "cause it takes me 4 minutes to get there" people dont like when things are out of place like that....
example.....
say you are walking in the mall or some other public place (mall works best), walk against the flow of people and try to pass them on their right side... they will keep trying to move left so you have to pass by them on their left side. they wont let you pass them on their right side.... weird if you ask me
