A small white blister usually rises at the bite site surrounded by a large congested and swollen area. Within 24 to 36 hours, a systemic reaction may occur with the victim characterized by restlessness, fever, chills, nausea, weakness and joint pain. The affected area enlarges, becomes inflamed and the tissue is hard to the touch. The spider's venom contains an enzyme that destroys cell membranes in the wound area with affected tissue gradually sloughing away, exposing underlying tissues. Within 24 hours, the bite site can erupt into a "volcano lesion" (a hole in the flesh due to damaged, gangrenous tissue).
The open wound may range from the size of an adult's thumbnail to the span of a hand. The sunken, ulcerating sore may heal slowly up to 6 to 8 weeks. Full recovery may take several months and scarring may remain. Plastic surgery and skin grafts are sometimes required.

yup, it's true...cane spiders are HUGE ***** that are common in areas where sugar cane grew...now the sugar cane plantations have closed down, so you dont see them as often, but they are still around...i grew up in a plantation home, and you DO NOT want to see one of these things up close...i dunno if they're poisonous or not, but considering their size and creepiness, i'm suprised that i'm still alive, considering how many times i've played in the cane fields with friends and gone into in the outdoor storage rooms of the old plantation houses...
i once seen one up close and personal, and i froze...it was black and hairy looking...the size of it was huge, it's leg-span was about 9-10", and the body was 3" long, and it's one of those THICK spiders...in fact, i've got chicken skin just thinking about it...
