Im looking to try some rallycross classes at Primitive in October. Theres a scca event the next day that the class pays entry for if you want to run in it, so im trying to figure out what class my car would be in if I decide to run it. Ive done alot of stuff to the car which Im pretty sure sends me up to the modified class. Can anyone here that knows the classes well point out the parts that knock me out of prepared class and into modified? Ive seen the rulebook and im still a little confused on the suspension stuff and engine swap.

Wheels will be swapped for sure before hand if I use my car. Im still debating just renting one for the classes or not. It may be the best thing at this point. Im taking the classes to see if Its something I would like to get into more. I've done a bit of racing, just never rallycross and want to give it a go. Im interested in the difference between prepared & modified to see how much I would need to convert over since my car has been built for street. I'll keep digging for info

Things that bump you to Modified (quick glance)
- your bigger turbo
- your modded engine
- missing cat

Like Allied said, those Tein SS coilover with ball tops are going to get beat up.

pretty much all of these qualifies you for modified lol.

prepared is a basic stock car with little to no modifications. minor suspension and upgrades are allowed. check the rules ^ posted above.
but its going to take a lot of work to get you back down to prepared. so just drive what you got. and plan or raising those SS to have a bit of clearance..

Thanks guys. Im just going to rent one of their cars for now to give it a shot. If its something I like I will most get a different car for rallyx. Just to different.

One other question, I guess most guys dont get larger brakes in rallyx? The guy that runs the classes said I want a 16inch wheel and alot of sidewall if I want to avoid flats and theres none that I know of that fits a bbk.

Ill try out the test car and go from there since I dont really want to butcher up my wrx right now. Maybe a stock 2.5rs or something in the future im thinking.

Most people try to use 15" wheels for rally-x as tires are more widely available. As mentioned above, snow tires are a great alternative to competition rally tires. I am running on Blizzaks and the grip is surprising.

No on the big brakes. Rallyx is short, like autox. Stock cars actually do very well. And if you're doing Primitive, then a stock Toyota Yaris WON the end of Saturday all class competition one year.

Your biggest concern is popping a bead on the tire, so it's better with more sidewall. 16's are better than 17, 15's are better than 16's. 18's shouldn't even think about it (or to each his own).

The great thing about dirt is it is a great equalizer. Cheap cars = great fun because you can beat the living rihanna out of them and still be competitive.

Seriously you should just rent a car from Primitive. Paul and his crew are great and they can go over with you what you need to do to your car. I have a couple of Rally X suby's and yes, brakes were downgraded to 4 pots/2 pots on my 08 STI (Primitive makes the only adapter bracket I am aware of) to fit 15 inch Rally rims/tires. Most STI guys are shocked that I did that.

And we have had several Subies come out in stock form and ripped out their fender liners, bottom out, etc. so again, better to take the rental until you are sure. I would strongly recommend Primitives FULL armor skid plates. I got some nice dents and scratches to prove they work!

Either way, you will have fun. Hard to describe Rally other than that feeling when you were a kid riding a big wheel in the rain sliding all over the place. Ear to ear grin for sure...Have fun.

Your car should be on a black track lol, the 3071 is an amazing turbo and I'm sure traction in the dirt will be close to zero lol
