Thumbs up My Ultimate 98 coupe-JDM STI ver.8 CF lightweight

I've been working on my new Subi for some time now, I'm hoping to have it done in the next couple of months. I'm hoping to keep the dry curb weight around 2600 lbs, with 300-350 whp. I did just about all the weight reduction I thought was reasonable for a car being built by an individual, without being sponsored or any shop backing (so far... hint, hint ) I've stripped off just about every nut and bolt, cleaned things up, and got on my way to build my version of the ultimate street car. Not the highest HP, highest G's on the skidpad, blinged out show car, but A car that could be driven daily, driven to the track, race, and drive home safely. On that note, the 'donor' car had been in an accident, so I knew that a Rollcage was on the list this time around(this is my 3rd 2.5RS: 00,01,98), plus some more safety items. I'm still thinking of installing an engine compartment fire suppresion system, But I need to get it running and work any kinks out first.
Goals of project are:
Under 2800 lbs (I'd like it around 2600) *Update* It weighs 2697 lbs with a full tank of gas!
300+ AWHP of 91 oct. pump gas (330-350 with race gas)
12.xx sec. 1/4 mile
0-60 low 4 sec. range
I came close with my last project, with full interior and a stereo system It ran a 13.01 at 107 mph on a hot, 100F Arizona night. It put 274 awhp on 91 oct. with the stock catted DP, I only had installed a catback exhaust, fuel pump, and dyno-tuned it with the Utec. I'm hoping with the new DP, and other parts, It should crack the 300 whp goal of mine.

Thanks!

Here's what I had to start with, it used to be a 10-sec drag car, but it had been sitting at a friends shop for some time before he sold it to another shop owner in tucson. I bought it from that owner, and started cleaning it out, it was quite a mess!Name: exteriorfrontrightcorner.jpg

I spent a few hours a day for a couple of weeks, didn't really keep track of the time. I'm working at my Friend's shop and he has an 4 wheel Dyno, so I can take breaks, cool down, have a beer and watch some crazy vehicles on the dyno. Here's my Daily Driver, 2007 G35S 6-MT

I used a chisel and and air hammer to remove all the sound tar. Used air drill and wire wheels, wire brushes, wet sanding, grinding stones, whatever it took, it's was a lot of work and a dirty, nasty job. The car had been in and out of shops without a windshield for 2 years! Sanded it, wiped it all down with denatured alcohol, and painted it myself. I'm going to keep the inside black, it makes for easier for exterior color changes down the road.

Well, I'm sitting in San Diego in front of my laptop, getting everything sorted out in my head on how busy I'm going to be over the next month. But for now, not to much is going on so I though I'd share with you all the story and some of the pictures that got me here in the first place.

The 'Donor car' of this project was originally done because the car would not have passed emmisions the way it was setup.

So I decide to do a motor swap. I found an awesome complete JDM ver. 8 STI drivetrain, was just about done with that project, when it was involved in an accident a week before going to paint.

After dealing with the insurance company about 6 months, I got the "donor car" back and was looking for a chassis to swap it all into.

I found a 98 2.5RS coupe that was just what I was looking for in Tucson.
Drove down with "Big Red" (our beater truck) and a trailer and brought it back to town.

Had to pull all the parts off of the "donor", including gas tank, and do the same with the new shell.

And then cleaning off all the new shell. It was used to make some 10-sec 1/4 runs in IL (I think) before it blew the clutch. It was running 8 fuel injectors, and had one of the first Build Blocks from Cobb. It was also a little low compression in one of the cylinders, I think it was rings, but regardless, it was driven anymore. bounced around for a while and ended up in my hands, without a windshield.

Also removed the Sunroof and roof skin to get rid of weight, and allow for better access to weld to top of the rollcage. Going to install the new "L" smooth roof skin.
So After alot of sanding, grinding, etc, it was ready to have the rollcage completed. I had to switch Fab guys after waiting for weeks, the guy finally said he couldn't do it, so I found a new Fabricator, and that's where we are today.
