Newbie question

Hi
About a month ago I purchased a subaru impreza 2.5i. Just a few days ago I was on the freeway trying to merge lanes. I believe I was going about 50 mph because of traffic, but then I tried to speed up and noticed that my automatic transmission was stuck in one gear for a very long time and did not shift. Should I be worried about it? I am no expert in cars at all. I do appreciate everyone's help. Thanks.

I have never driven an automatic Subaru but many automatics will keep it in a gear for a long time if you keep the throttle at 100%. You can try lifting your foot of the gas when you think the transmission should shift and it can make it select the higher gear.

Hope this helps!
