FNG San Francisco-02' Wagon PO171

Hey all, I've seen the I-Club stickers for years. I waited for SOA to bring the WRX to the states for a couple years and bought mine in 02'. I've got 180k on the clock and a PO171 code. there is for sure something bad going on. It won't boost like it should and looses power up hill at times. Other times it runs fine. I clean the MAF and made sure my air cleaner box is sealing correctly. I have all the parts for the timing belt/water pump service having done it at 90k myself(Gates) but I need to find out what's wrong with this problem first. The Rex is pretty stock, only a Stromung exhaust and a K&N filter. Stuff I don't want to do myself I have had Renner Motorsports in Inglewood do for me (they are great) but since living here I haven't felt comfortable going anywhere for service. Anyway, I hope I can find some answers here.

Jim

I battled the p0171 for a long time.. there were multiple culprits including the tmic hoses and my airbox but in the end replacing my MAF sensor with a brand new one fixed the issue, its $100 bucks but well worth it to eliminate your issues(which were similar to mine) good luck

Thanks for that response. I wonder if there is any way to test the MAF? Is there an OHM test or something like that?
I just replaced my plugs, was gonna do it anyway. The Passenger side rear plug was loose as in I removed it by hand. No difference in performance. The old ones were in for 90k or so. Also, they appear mocha brown which means they aren't running too lean in an obvious way.
