Awwww.....and so the fallout begins.
Sorry we won't have you along Kevin, a spring fling sounds like a good idea too though, might just have to follow through with that as a plan.

Well? anybody?
I went out again today, nailed down the route and timing for the checkpoints.
The campground is primitive,
we'll need to bring water I think, but its really awesome, just a few dunes away from the beach.
Here are some more pictures from places that we WILL visit....

I'll put you in the maybe category then.
It has been written for 10 cars, so we have spots for a few more people.
Let me know by Friday because that's going to be the latest I'll allow anyone else to enter.

I think I need a third set of wheels/tires. Something better for dirt/tarmac combo weekends. Definitely don't want to wear through the snows driving quickly on twisty tarmac, but don't want to destroy the 18's on the dirt. Maybe I'll steal my wife's RS wheels with G009's on them for that weekend. Hehehe...

I'm trying to keep it "17" happy" for Jane- and I think maybe even me, my 16" tires are showing threads- but I don't know about your ghetto-baller 18's.

Sounds like a lot of planning etc. Any entry fee?
I have never done anything like this but it sounds like blast. Would I be fine on stock rims and newer all-seasons? I am not worried too much about performance, etc. just survival. If so, I will need to pick up a stock 02-04 wheel and tire from someone for cheap to use as a spare.
Counting on all this, I am in for the 29th.

Thanks for recognizing that, it is pretty involved, two or three pre-check trips mean I drive over a thousand miles before anyone even gets to the start.
You'll need $5 for entry to the Drive Thru Tree, also the campsites are $8.
Also figure on starting with a full tank of gas, filling up again 90+ miles out in Willits (premium was still less than 3.10/gal on Saturday up there), then maybe topping off in Redway, and you'll probably need another fill up on the way home.
I figure there's enough fixed costs to participate that an entry fee would only be an excuse for people not to enter.
I only ask that you recognize that I'm not asking for anyone to violate the law and be responsible for yourselves- if you do something stupid, don't blame me.
It is great fun, and very beginner-friendly, the first half of the day we'll all be caravaning together anyway, the timed sections are paved and really easy to stay on course, you should be just fine on stock rims and tires, I only reccomend a full sized spare because if one does suffer a flat, you are probably a long ways away from anyplace that can fix it, too far to want to go on a donut spare.
I'll put you down on the list, let me know if anything changes...
