Car Info: 2003 WRX Wagon
I'm going to try and make this one and hope to meet some fellow Subaru owners. I have been on this site for years, but usually use it for researching things. Wife is finally buying a new car so I get my Subi back. Since it will be a 3rd car in the fam I'm in the process of setting it up for track/auto cross. Here are some detail of on it.
2003 WRX wagon (original owner)
4EAT
Cobb stage 2 tune
Full turbo back
Up pipe
Cusco 1.5rs limited slip in the rear
Megan Racing Track Series Coil Overs
Front and rear Whiteline strut bars
Whiteline 22mm rear sway bar and mounts
Bridgestone SO-4 205/55/16 tires on stock wheels
Since I'm on the BFG racer program for my rock crawler I'm going to pick up some 225/50/16 R1s for track days
I'm new to this so any input would be great. Hope to meet you guys out there.

The other suggestion is to read at least the first few chapters of Going Faster! Mastering the Art of Race Driving by Carl Lopez before you go to the track. Know that your first day driving at the track you will be flooded with new information and you won't be able to understand it all at once. Focus on learning the ideal line and work on memorizing the visual cues which you use to correctly place the car for each corner entry.

I would suggest doing your first 5 or 10 track days on street tires. You will learn a lot more and the feedback from street tires is much more progressive. They will warn you before they let go - track tires have way more stick, but they don't give much warning before they let go and you're sliding backwards into a wall. And since this track day is in December there's a chance we'll be driving in the wet.

Yeh I have been reading that. Thanks for the input on the tires.

Definitely street tires. Honestly, until you get to point by groupings, don't do slicks or track tires.
I've done three track days on s.Drives. They make a ton of noise. They're not good track tires, but they let you know before they break loose. And with that said, I felt safe.
Yes, they get greasy in the heat. Yes, they squeal like crazy. Yes, the side walls roll in hard turns. But they also seem to give room for error. Track tires will just break grip on you when you least expect it.

Someone is doing a day at Thunderhill on the 20th and SpeedSF is doing Thunderhill on the 14th. Might be good options if you want to get in a day before the end of the year.
