4urabus I know you have told me this before. I didnt know you were a service consultant.
SO if i got my glow shift gauges and i took them into subaru...unless those gauges could prove to be the reason my engine failed they cant ding me. But lets say i get a boost gauge and something with the oil happens and my engines seizes up (far fetched i know just roll with me) They say it was because i messed with the turbo air line and do to over boost i caused the problem even though the boost was never adjusted.
So even though that wasnt the root causeIs this something that may have a possibility of happening, them saying that and voiding the warranty and me getting screwed or is there no chance of that happening.

A boost gauge is unrelated to any oil pressure problems. However, if the feed line to an oil pressure gauge were to leak and cause your engine to run out of oil, then you're screwed. If you were to install an aftermarket boost gauge in a similar fashion to the dealer-installed gauge (you can get instructions from the dealer parts counter), then you shouldn't have any problems.
Keep in mind, if your car throws a check engine light, the service consultant would most likely quote you an estimate for repairs instead of automatically assuming that the problem was covered under warranty. However, unless the person who installed the gauges did a hack-job on it, most likely the tech will find that the problem was unrelated to the aftermarket gauge installation.
BTW, this is all hypothetical since I can't guarantee the quality of the gauge installation.
Refresh my memory; exactly which gauges were you planning to install?

The one's relating to oil are of the most concern. To be on the safe side, be sure to use 'electrical' as opposed to 'mechanical' gauges, and use some teflon tape on your pipe fittings.

Who told you that? You can have anyone you like maintain your car, as long as they use the correct parts and fluids, and you keep track of your service records.

so the dealership has basically been filling my head full of ****. it was the dealership that says no one else can service my car except them. So basically i just have to have a subaru oil filter on there and keep track of when i have oil changes?

That is correct. You don't even have to use a Subaru oil filter (though they are the preferred part), you just have to use one designed for use on that car.
On of the many provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 states that the manufacturer cannot force you to have maintenance performed at a dealership, unless that maintenance service is provided free of charge.

Since it changes the parameters of the ECU, which effects engine performance (which in turn effects the longevity of the clutch, transaxle, diffs, etc), then yes, a Cobb AP voids the warranty on those items.
