i have mine like that but only because sittin from the drivers seat makes it easier to read as opposed to being straight is a bit harder to read the readings... thats me though.

you angle them to where the needle sticks straight up and down when the gauge is around normal operating procedure. its just easier to check the gauges when they are all pointing up.
People angle them so that they can quickly glance at them and make sure everything is running in tip top shape. Most of the time, the "normal" area that the gauge hits when the car is fully warm and running is at twelve o clock so that you know anything aside from straight up/down is wrong.

I think that may have been the initial reason, but now it seems people put them at about a 45* angle to look cool and edgy. You can tell the ones in the picture are not put like that for ease of reading.

i have to agree... also how would you angle a boost gauge so that when you are driving you can look over and see everything is in tip top shape when they are all moving with the pressure of the pedal? idk just my $.2
I wouldput them straight just remember where they should be or use small red tape for normal operating level. I just think it looks better straight, and you can still read them.
