The stock springs are too soft and will rub during compression. RCE Yellows are the stiffest spring you'd ever want to put on STI struts (they are actually too stiff and will eventually kill them), but they still too soft and too low to boot. Only coilovers will prevent rub. You won't be able to get enough camber to fit them out of camber bolts unless he monster trucks it. You need more adjustment (hence plates).

lols. i get what you mean. but also, you gotta understand, at some point, offset does not effect whether it rubs or not. 9.5 is a WIDE wheel. the distance between your OEM shock struts and fender is only so big. now thing about it: you can throw around your stock wheel in any offset (+ or -) but when u put a 9.5 in there, the space between both the fender and strut are VERY minimal. at this point, ud deff need a roll and pull for the fenders and possibly camber bolts or camber plates to clear strut. "but its stock height" you say. OEM struts' stroke/reciprocation is way diff than aftermarket coilovers. meaning your wheels is going to travel longer distances on OEM shocks than aftermarkter setups. hope info between BR and i helps.

maybe tell him to bite the bullet like i did. i bought my 18x9.5 grids well before rolling. and lowering. instead of buying tires for new wheels, i bought brand new coilovers for the price of tires. just an idea. but ya, its going to be real hard driving that thing around on OEM struts. IMO

18x8.5 and above +40 and you should be okay with 245 tires or even 255 would be good for a meaty setup. Might have to roll fenders though depending on tires and offset

Most 255s will rub even on 8.5" +48 in the rear if he ever lowers it at all.
