Stage 2 exhaust help

Hey guys I am new to I-club but I have been around on other sites. I am looking into getting this http://www.subimods.com/french/invid...7-wrx-sti.html. For my 04 wrx with 120000 miles on it.

I had a couple questions I know once I get the exhaust that it won't pass smog unless I replace the CBE with the stock one but my friend is suggesting for me to go fully cattless what's your guys opinion on going full cattless? Is there something bad about going full cattless?

My normal plan was to go cattless up pipe, catted DP and the n1 race burnt titanium tip. Get all new gaskets with this purchase also.

I'm absolutely not a fan of the Invidia N1 Race. It sounds awful and it's too loud. But that's personal opinion.

Catted is fine and so is non-catted. On a stage 2 car a high flow cat won't be a restriction, so you won't run into any problems either choice.

I enjoy the deep roar of the n1 race. So it's okay to get it all cattless? Cause that would save me 250$.

Catless is fine provided you dont mind:

Polluting more than you would otherwise
Running the risk of a hefty fine if you get caught
Swapping to a catted downpipe every two years to pass emissions

04+ cars reportedly have issues running catless downpipes without a tune. You should look into that as well.

+04 have issues running catted downpipes without a tune. Did you see his link?

For the record, aftermarket catted downpipes aren't necessarily legal either.

True, I tried not to be CA specific in my reply as I dont know other states' laws re: calalytic converters, plus we dont know where the OP lives.

four bangin'- CA requires OEM cats be used.

I live in the Bay Area. I heard from many other people about this whole invidia exhaust will not pass smog, so I am willing to hold onto the stock one and exchange it out when the time comes to pass smog.

Rest assured, the portion of the exhaust from the downpipe-back (cat-back) is CARB legal. Whether or not the race version of the N1 will pass the noise restriction is another story, however a smog shop will not fail you for being too noisy, nor will they check. The uppipe is a PITA to swap back-and-forth for smog purposes. My personal recomendation (after you have the full kit/tune installed) would be to simply swap in your stock downpipe when you need to pass smog.... keep everything else as-is.

Alright sweet thanks for the info guys much appreciated! Now is the wait to get the cash for the purchase. Do you know any good tuners in the Bay Area? How much would it cost to get a tune so I can get a good estimate of how much this whole project will be.
