NNR Short Throw Frustration
Hello everyone,
My younger brother (inexperienced with cars) went out and bought me an Ebay brand "NNR SHORT THROW SHIFTER" for my birthday.
I know it's cheap and all but hey I appreciate the gesture. There is one awkward problem:
I tried installing it, removed the old shifter, and lubed up the new one and tried popping it back in. I didn't realize it until it was dark but I had spent 3 hours trying to fit the shifter ball back into the "cup". It just does not want to pop back in. The ball seems to be the same size as the OEM one and I don't have any way to jack up my car now to remove everything.
Please, before I throw this thing out the window someone give me some tips!

You can also bolt the shifter to the linkage first, that will give you some leverage while pulling back on it and pushing down into the cup. If you do this put the **** on first to get a better grip.
If you do use a dead-blow hammer, first thread a bolt on top of the lever to protect the threads from damage when hammering. A spare lug nut will work, the threads are the same size 12x1.25.
Note that the bolt and bushing should be lubed (preferably with white lithium grease), and the required torque on that bolt is low (about 7-8 ft-lbs) so make sure not to over-tighten it.
