Project: Teach Blaise to Drive a Standard... :)

So, Blaise comes up to me and says he is ready to learn standard...

Picked up an 02 WRX...knew it was a fixer upper, it's ok...we'll fix it together...

So Nolan, Blaise and I limped home and started tearing down.

I tell you, old WRX's that haven't had anything touched are "very" difficult to work with...gorilla'd on with lots of seized nuts and bolts...

We had to call it quits today due to some very stubborn hardware...so they'll soak with PB Blaster for a few days before we attempt it again...

So far, we have had to replace the TD04 Turbo (Thanks Nolan), a turbo inlet pipe (on order) and are currently looking for a catless uppipe (Thanks Darrell)...

The primary problems we encountered were seized/rounded uppipe nuts...the heatshield bolts were also hosed...we are working on cutting them off...gorilla's on front O2 sensor, and header nuts...whoa!

So as mentioned, we will let them soak for a few days and attack once again.

Thanks,
Brent

It's always something...i've never had a major install go very smoothly...it's always that "one" nut or stud, or something...in this case, multiply those problems by a factor of 10...

Still...new wrenchheads never learn as fast or as much unless you run into problems...if things went smoothly all the time, the learning curve and problem solving skills would take longer to achieve...

My mind is as tired as my body this morning...getting old...LOL!

I still remember how long it took me to take off my intercooler, lol. I've done it so much now, it's crazy how much faster it's done. It usually takes me half the time or less to do things around the second time. As far as the issues, there is always something!

Update:

Thanks to the help of Jimi, Nolan and friends who generously provided parts at a discounted rate...the Rex is now up and running.

There were a few check engine lights that popped up after initially putting the car together.

P0171 and P0301...hmm...

Car was Idling low (~500rpms) and it hesitated during boosting...

Checked and cleaned the MAF with Electronic cleaner and a soft brush.

I then checked the Evaporator Purge Valve...and noticed a hose had come loose...that was cleaned and the hose secured...so far...idle is back to normal and the CEL has not re-appeared. Boost is normal for a TD04 stock turbo...

Nolan did a great job of detailing the vehicle inside and out...clayed, buffed, then paint sealed...car looks as good as it can.

headlights replaced...thanks to Shota for selling me his extra set...although Nolan tried to bring the old ones back...even his skills were tested. He says a second round may clean them up further...

The deafening Blitz Nurspec-R (no resonator) was replaced with a STI Genome exhaust...it's on the quiet side now...but still rumbly.

Getting ready to drop the car on springs and replace the wheels/tires...

stay tuned for the transformation picture...

Removed the annoying Blitz Turbo Timer and installed the mic for the BT deck today.
