I've been told that you can toss the oil change box into the regular trash when you are done instead of turning it in at a recycle station. It doesn't say anything on the box about it though. Rather, it says 'dispose of according to you local laws' or something along those lines. I read somewhere that it is burned at the plant in Barbers Point or something. But how do they sort through the trash to burn it? Or do they just burn everything? If they burn it, won't the byproducts pollute the sky? Or do they have 'scrubbers' that filter out the contaminants? How do you know that it doesn't end up in a landfill which may later contaminate ground water? I ain't no tree hugger but I don't want to pollute any bit more than I already am.
Purchase a special absorbent oil change box at local stores that sell motor oil. Drain your used oil directly into the oil change box, seal it and put it in your trash. Your trash is taken to H-POWER, the City's waste-to-energy plant, where it is burned as fuel to generate electricity
on the hawaii made oil eaters the box says to call this number. i heard someone called it and they were told to just throw the box in the trash.
as for H-power not sure how much it is used. i'm guessing only a small percentage is burned. and i've also heard that the cost to run H-power exceeds the amount made by burning the trash, which is why only limited amounts are burned.

lol... it is! but its great!
just spoke to someone at intech. all household trash(residential) goes to h-plant.
intech is a records shredding company which was also awarded some funding from the state(from what i'm told) intech is the actual company that manufactures these boxes(at least one of them) and its made from shredded paper products. apparantly the box makes the oil safe enough to transport to the plant before getting burned.
so... just throw that bad boy in datrash!!
if u wanna call them and ask questions you can call them directly @ 848-7776
they were very helpful and informative
