Turbo on EJ16 engine
Hi there!
My name is bruce..!
First of all, sorry about my poor english,
I am from argentina ... so if somebody speak spanish dont be shy haha!
but well.. here is my question...
I have an 1993 impreza GL 1.6 FWD.. All standard..
The impreza sedan it is quite BIG for an 1.6 engine.. with aprox 90 hp...
So I wonder.. how about making turbo the gl?? !!
I`ve just heard about an new version of the TS impreza.. that is 1.6 lts. turbo and 180 hp!!! very good for an 1.6 engine!..
my problem it is that i am little out of money now.. i cannot afford a PRO KIT with cams.. exausts, pistons.. etc etc..
so the thing is.. it can be poible to put a "light" turbo (ex: an diesel turbo) with the intercooler.. keeping the original pistons.. ecu, etc???
just to gain a few hps.. im thinking about 140 hp..
What do you think??

Car Info: 1993/2000/2001 GF4 mostly red
It would be much easier to put a 2.2 or 2.5 liter non-turbo motor in. You could probably do it without additional wiring or engine management if you select one with the same style of engine management. Check out the sticky in this forum for more info on it.

i have found a webpage of an 1.8 lts engine turbo conversion.. (ej18) ..
that freak take 200 bhp out of that 1.8 engine.. and.. yes he blow the engine hahah..
but he gave me some good tips....
1) keep te engine standard..
2) use a piggy back to change the ecu parameters..
3) ALWAYS use intercooler for avoid detonation..
4) change the gas pump.. and do not boost more than 5 psi..
5) something about a sensor for the air -fuel ratio.. dunou.. hahah

can you tell me more about the piggy back?.. for my ecu there is an especific model or brand??

Hola bruno q tal?? Yo soy de uruguay y vi q querias turbinar un ej16, no se si lo terminaste haciendo al final?? Yo estoy en la misma pero volaron los metales a la mierda jeje, pero no precisas cambiar ecu ni nada de eso, yo lenhice una suplementaria de nafta y no tue problemas, el problema fue q no cambie ni siquera los aros nada el motor std con 400000 kms y ta no aguanto 1.2 kgs de presion jeje, si tenes algun dato para pasarme o algo mandame un whatsapp al 59896491694 graciasss
