Why do WRX had 3 cats and STI only has 2?

Maybe I missed it but why do WRX have 3 cats and the STI has 2? Is it to give the STI more of a performance advantage? Just wondering , Thanks

does bthe forester xt ant Legacy GT 2.5 turbo have 2 or 3 cats?
