I had an aftermarket CAI and BOV on my 03, but pulled them off because it became a very rough ride. After going back to the stock parts it's behaved a lot better, but now seems SUPER laggish to do anything related to accelleration. Is this just me being used to having the CAI and the ECU adjusting (what it could) for it, or do I need to reset the ECU?

the problem with aftermarket intakes is the air turbulance as it passes the airflow meter this causes weird running conditions cobb is the only MFG that has done something to help that problem.

the only thing Cobb's done about the problem is make their own engine management. I don't recall ever seeign a Cobb intake for anything but an RS... and they don't make one for the MAF engines.

Yup. It's a NA mod. And Injen is claiming a 14 WHP gain on an '05 RS with the RD intake!

I guess we can agree on that
On a turbo engine... just use a short right in the engine bay for WRX/STI use.

OT - what's with the double-spacing in your post? It's awkward reading it...

If it's akward, why does every publishing house insist on this format? It easier to read and simpler to add notes. It's a good thing!

Yup. As a salesman for Subaru... couldn't agree with you more. Drive one. You'll believe!

Exclamation

Wow I read this thread twice... it really is worse then a debate on Bush's worth to world. There are hardliners on BOTH sides.

I have the GP Moto 'U' eliminating the baffle box in the fender, with the WRX snorkel (in a NA engine bay). I also cut the weather stripping at the mouth of the snorkle and put in K & N and I am quite happy with it. Guess I will just leave it all alone. Spend money somewhere else besides CAI. Phew...

Took almost an hour to read twice and now I'm late for bed. So, 11 pages later I am ready to retire. The bible is almost an easier read then this thread was!!!

people who think that intake air temperature does not have a direct bearing on turbocharger compressor efficiency need to do more research.

Drop-in filters.

I just bought a 2004 WRX Wagon, and I've spent the last two weeks reading as much as possible about modifications and I have come to one conclusion on air intakes... Drop-in filter! I will also add the GP Moto elbow, because this makes more sense to me than spending $300 for a similar setup with engine heat as an added bonus. I plan on using the OE cold air intake, minus the 'snorkus' of course.

What about the K&N Typhoon intake? I know its short ram and not CAI but I'm a nOOb and have had it on for days. Just wondering if Im gonna cause damage to the engine by using it. And also will an AP with a protune fix any knocking or associated problems that come with this sort of mod? Really wish I had found this forum before I got it. Sorry if this only adds fuel to the fire in this long....long debate. TIA.
