"Check Engine" light and engine misfire
I found the 'check engine' light on today morning in my
2002 WRX. Took it to the dealer and he says there's
been a misfire and the ECM needs to be re-programmed.
Anyone else who has faced this problem? And does
someone know what causes this? I wasn't satisfied
with what the dealer told me.

this isnt very similar but once there was a malfunction with my ECU and the car stalled...they said it was just a fluke...is the reprogramming going to cost you anything?

Yes, I do run on premium fuel, have maintained it very
well. It get's covered by warranty.
I asked the technician if he sees lots of such cases. He
replied in the negative. It seems the 2001 Subarus used
to have this problem.
They now have to ship the ECU to New Jersey, get it
re-programmed and then re-install it here, which means
the car's grounded for 3 days at least.
Yeah, fluke is kind of what they termed it too. 'It's a
computer, you see' - that was the explanation. Didn't
suffice for me, though.

The reprogramming for the misfire codes one of the repairs being done up to 2003
Cars, there is no cost to the customer providing they are in the warranty window.
This dose not apply to all misfire codes.
