Unhappy 04 Cel

i never thought i would be typing something about the CEL, but it did infact hit me. My new 04 WRX with 15k miles has sprung a CEL on me while driving to work.

A little history, Catless Uppipe with EGT still connected. Ran this Uppipe with no problems for about 8k miles. Then i got a Joe P MBC as a gift and ran that for about 1k miles with no problem. Took the car to the track and made 3 passes. EGT bung flew out but was an easy fix. Still no CEL. I only over boosted the car once and that was when i first hooked the MBC up, but it was only for a fraction of a second. Ran it a little conservative and never was boosting over .1 bar except a little bit over in 5th gear, which i hardly done.

Now i just disconnect the thing last friday because i didnt want to run the thing for long periods of time and just wanted to be safe. but I guess it wasnt the end of my worries and i get the CEL thrown at me. Sorry i dont have any CEL codes right now, I just got to work in the early morning and im tired..

I just hope some of you can throw some idea's of what could of caused the CEL. Im thinking the MBC, then switching back. Oh and i Never Reset the ECU.

How did you hook up the MBC? There are several methods that can be used. I tried several on my 04 and all ended in disaster, well, maybe not disaster but not good either. I had many problems with the ECU pulling timing while using the MBC, which actually made the car slower than with the stock controller. Needless to say i took it off. You may want to try this as well, but it would be worth the trip to Pepboys or Autozone to have them pull the code so you know exactly what you are dealing with?

I connected directly from Turbo Inlet to waste gate. I dont think i was having problems with the MBC, car actually felt so much faster. I was able to pull a 14.050@94MPH with it.

I havent had a chance to take the car anywhere yet because This just happened to me this morning at 6AM. So i will try to get this moving a long soon and get a Code.

Did you put a resistor in the EGT sensor?

No the Uppipe has the bung for the EGT sensor so it was plugged. So it came out while i was running at the track.

I have heard that the egt in the uppipe is prone to wearing out eaiser once the cat is removed. You may want to plug it and go with an aftermarket egt.
