03 Bugeye wagon.. Transmission issue help plz!
Hello folks hope everyone is doing well.
First things first I have a 03 bugeye wrx wagon that I bought used with about 130xxx miles and have accumulated 160xxx miles.
Mods included are stage 2 catless up/dp with vf39 to 1000cc injectors. Boosting about 16-18psi.
I initially felt my clutch slipped so i had it replaced by my mechanic who is also a great friend of mine. So we went ahead and threw a stage 4 clutch. As it was all good to go 2nd gear went out, so we had it replaced as well. (Oem gears)
As I recieved the car back, drove it to make sure it was drivable, there was a whine from the tranny.. i guess once you open it its inevitable.
I drove it to the snow and made it back almost home, about 30mins away to have the tranny go out on me again. What happen was I was stopped @ a light to turn left, shift into 1st with clutch in, proceed with gas, than a clunking noise came and it didnt catch the gear like it was spinning.. might have blown another gear.
Sorry for the long story but it serves as a background for my issue.
Question for you guys is what should I do?
How do i go about it? Are there any good mechanics that can work on transmissions?
Dam glass trannys :/ lol
Thank you in advance. Any help would be aprreciated
Also time and budget is limited
Sti 6speed swap would be ideal but not at the moment. Also talked about ra gears... but its my daily driver.

Hey now, don't blame the 'glass' transmission, blame your clutch choice. There is no reason to go with something that aggressive and if you did strip a gear (any rattling?) it's the likely cause. You want to get a clutch just strong enough to hold what you'll be making, not much more.
Not sure of the whining you experienced either. That's not normal. What flywheel did you use?

I just resurfaced stock flywheel. Originally i was gonna go with a oem replacement or stage 2.. but my friend who helped me build up the car suggested since adding more power over stock getting a more sturdy clutch would be better so I got the stage 4.
Would you think the clutch is too agressive for the stock tranny?
Im sure a gear went out possibly 1st this time. We just have to open it up and see.
Not bashing the glass tranny lol.
For the whine it didnt seem normal but it drove fine...until it gave out

I was asking about the flywheel because some of the lightweight ones can make noise. Might be an assembly issue then since you said it was recently pulled apart.
Specifically what clutch did you go with? As a rule of thumb you want the clutch to be the weak link in the transmission because it's meant to be disposable while the gears and synchros are not. Getting a clutch that grabs really hard will increase shockload, which is what strips gears and harms synchros. I would have gone up one step above OEM given yours setup.

Competetion clutch stage 4 6 puck if i recall.
Yeah im aware of the shockload. Hopefully nothing major other than a gear just going out. But wondering if you guys experience tranny noise like a whine after rebuilding it.
Are there any reputable transmission specialist locally in the bay, recommendations?
