JDM Sport Shifter in 4EAT
I've been looking around on the forums and noticed a guy that got a 2003 Japanese WRX shipped over here with a 4EAT with a sport shifter (something the US WRX is lacking).
Anyone have any idea if it is possible to swap the Japanese tranny with the sport shifter over to the 2003 US WRX? Or somehow just getting the sport shifter onto the US WRX. I might be the only person who's thought of it, but any ideas if it could be done (and how much of a hassle it would be).
Thanks much,
FuzzyC

There is a rumor that the MY04 will have the sport shift option, when asked, all SOA would say is check the impreza "mini" page for frequent updates on pricing and options, of course this was back in early feb and nothing on the page has changed....Just remember this is only a rumor, BUT, if it is true, that will make it easier to get one Im sure, you may also want to check and see if the legacy sport shift tranny is the same (ie:size) since those are available......Sorry this isn't more help, but maybe just a little hope that it can be accomplished
Hmmmm come to think of it, you may also want to check size and "set-up" of other manufacture's "sport-shift" autos, and see if there is a possiablity it could fit?

Here's a pic on the 2004 Canadian. Looks like the same as what we have now .

Hmm... I guess 04 Canada WRX still gets the standard 4EAT. Maybe US will be different... but now I highly doubt it.
But no one's considered the 03 JDM sport shifter? Or any tranny guys/girls that know enough to at least give a rough estimate as to what's needed. I mean, are we talking more than just a replacement shifter. What else does it entail? torque converter, box, ecu, all that stuff.

I don't know about details but I'll bet the tranny itself is the same.
Probably just the program in the transmission ECU.
Obvious things you'll need is guage cluster, shifter, all the wirings and ECU, and the steering wheel with those buttons.
It's just my guess.
sport shift has been available in Impreza from 2000 model over there I think. B4 had it from 98

I was reading a old posted chat log from edmunds when they asked subaru of america about such a thing.
June 2002
The VTD with sportshift is currently only available on the Legacy 2.5 GT models. At present there are no plans to offer this on Forester, since we're reserving it for those vehicles that are part of our driving performance strategy. The WRX already has the VTD with the 4 speed auto, but no plans to put sportshift on the WRX at present since not that many automatics are sold.
Here's another pic I found on the japanese impreza site.

nice momo sport shift accesory
I also wonder if the US legacy sport shifter would fit in a already automatic wrx.

It would be nice to offer a conversion for all us 4eat owners all 2000 of us per year or so. I like the reliability of the automatic and would luv to see some kind of conversion kit offered or whateever that would be sweet. that would be nice
