Hello,

My 2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5I auto transmission has an issue. After the car is warmed up, when my car shifts from 2nd to first there is a clunk in the transmission.

I just got back from aamco, and they said that the fluid is burned (a mid brown) and there was metallic substance found in the fluid. They want to charge me $450 just to open the transmission, then charge me whatever it is to repair it accordingly.

This only seems to happen when i am reducing speed quickly. If i gradually slow down, no clunk happens. If i use the auto shift feature too no clunk seems to happen.


I wanted to know if anyone has any idea what might be wrong with it, and maybe how much they are thinking it might cost. The car has 65xxx miles on it, and i think it has been doing this for a while.

I know I should probably just suck it up and get it fixed, but if I can save $500 with a simple fluid rinse or cpu update then

So I seem to be experiencing the same exact problem recently .. Exactly! Haven't figured it out yet .. Did you find out what was going wrong? Mine is a 2008 impreza auto transmission also with 90,000. Miles on it

Transmission flush or manual transmission conversion is what I would do. Try a tranny fluid flush before you open up that transmission.

You could fix your car ? The Impreza 2008? I saw that was in 2011. The mine is giving the same problem. When the car warms starts punching in automatic transmission . How did you get the car? What was it? thank you.
