Tech nerds... PS4...

The PS3 is still a great piece of hardware. It's still one of the better blue ray players on the market. It's got all the fun stuff with Netflix and what not. Big storage. Great games. Online play. There will be a lot of people playing the games online for the first year as games will still be coming out. And for another year after that.
I am one of those. I probably won't upgrade to a PS4 for 18 months to 2 years unless they do offer a trade in program. And I predict they will as sales after the first few months start to sag.
Once that first flood sells out and people over pay on ebay and things cool down I think they'll start to sag.
Give me $200 off with the trade in of my relatively new PS3 and I'd probably do it much much sooner.

PS3 doesn't have much advantage as a blu-ray player anymore. Even my $99 Panasonic has the same video quality as my much more expensive Oppo these days. The advantage the PS3 had early on was instant firmware updates which fixed issues faster than any other manufacturer and it took them until the Slim came out to correct the audio decoding issue. It IS still an excellent player though, and I use it for 3D movies and games because it does a great job.
I will keep my PS3 and move it to another system and use the PS4 in the main setup. Places like Gamestop will most likely do trade ins to upgrade, but I highly doubt Sony will.

Not all blue ray players can run 3d. I have a $100 panasonic and it's the biggest POS electronic I've ever owned. I will NEVER buy another panasonic blue ray player. I'm looking at a samsung to replace it with that runs 3d.

I've had the previous 2 Panasonics BD-60 and BD-65 and have had zero issues with them, both for just $99 each. Neither of them do 3D either though. Definitely DON'T get a Samsung Blu-ray; the one product they don't do well. Panasonic and Sony are the most commonly recommended ones on the less expensive side. Panasonic actually holds the major patents for Blu-ray even though Sony is the one who pushed it, and a lot of other manufacturers use Panasonic internals.
