They just lost 4-2, but to be honest, I don't think Vancouver played all that well 5 on 5. If all the damn 5 on 3 goals were taken away, this would have been a very close hockey game. Game 6 will be close, provided penalties don't take over the game.

Going 0 for 5 on the PP, 4 of which were in the 1st really hurt the Sharks. They needed to capitalize on those calls. This would have been a completely different game if they did. Almost looked like they didn't want to play today. And yeah, the 3 (three) 5 on 3 goals all within 2 minutes of the 2nd period was ridiculous. The last 5 to 10 minutes of the 3rd period, they looked good. But it wasn't enough.
I hope I'm completely wrong, but the Sharks aren't gonna win 3 in a row. Especially 2 in Vancouver.

It's great that having an extra man on the ice (trying to exit the ice) can give the other team a chance to score.. I mean how does that compute - the punishment does not fit the crime. I suppose this is more focused at a fundamental flaw in the penalty system. On another note, how hard can the refs try to give Vancouver an edge in this series?

I agree. Awesome game having 10 min of 5v4, getting zero goals. Played sleepily without urgency the first 40 minutes.
Then giving up 3 straight 5v3's?! (talk about a lack of discipline)
Eh, maybe get one more, Sharks again look fatigued and flat.

My favorite was the linesman blowing a good Sharks entry dead because of 6 skaters after they pulled Niemi....almost a minute prior...way to pay attention.
Does the NHL not review/score/rank their officials like the NFL?
Only the top rated officials then get invited to officiate the playoffs/championships....
My guess is no based on the playoffs officiating as a whole...

I think the first 2-3 powerplays SJ got they didn't really deserve as I though some of them were a bit embellished. There is one thing I do like about the team is Todd, he is straight forward and doesn't have any BS excuses like Alain. It's a bummer he didn't get nominated for coach of the year.
Honestly the sharks are still in it, they can beat Vancouver, what killed them today was when they were in their offensive zone a van player got their stick on everything and were first to the pucks which is what eliminated a lot of the success on the pp. If Chicago can comeback from an 0-3 Deficit with really shaky goaltending I am sure the sharks can pull of a game 7 win.
(Sorry for the rant)

Not that the NFL or their officials are perfect in their system, but at least they review each official in each game and assign/deduct points for calls made/missed. Off of that they are rated, off of the rating they are ranked, then invited to the post-season.
Obviously hockey is a little different, but it just seems like missing something as big as a team pulling their goalie for an extra skater would be noticed?
