Actually I do remember back firing with the perrin catted dp on a few rare occasions (after my vf34 tune) on shift changes. It was their original version I think. Since I bought it used and I put 50k on it myself... I'm sure it had to be in the 60-70k range by the time it came off.
Looked like this before it went on:

Sounds like plugs to me or a sticky/leaking injector...also check your fuel filter.
With the headers you'll pick up more mid and upper end.
If I recall, I made 280~290 on the GST dyno when I had ej205, vf34, fmic, and stock headers. If your car can hold boost, your numbers should be pretty good.

I'm guessing you haven't tried this in reality with some track time to really test that 'ECU Managing'?
I'm often wrong but that seems contrary to everything I've ever been told or read about tuning EJs

02-03 just didn't have the CL switch point set at retarded levels, I've seen a 2013 STI with a catless exhaust and MBC on the dyno and it didn't or hadn't blown up but doesn't mean I do either personally

Seems to be the case, I ran catless uppipe & my 3" catted tbe for 8 months before I went in for my first tune on the td04 way back. Never had any cel's or other problems.
Made some small progress today getting ready for the tune. New fuel filter went in, cleaned the air filter and MAF sensor then picked up some T6 and a filter for the oil change.

Had some time yesterday to change the spark plugs and oil, but omfg... that was the WORST spark plug change I've ever dealt with!!
Normally I can knock it out in about an hour but this time took me 3hrs!! Plugs 1, 3, 2 were no problem then I get to plug 4 and... wtf?!! Couldn't get either of my spark plug sockets to go onto it. After trying at least 10 or more times to get the socket on I knew something had to be up. Went and grabbed a small mirror and looked into where plug #4 was and I see some weird black thing wrapped around the plug. Took a look at my spark plug socket and sure enough, the rubber grommet from it was gone/missing. So it must have broken off when I finished up my plug change last time and had been sitting in there ever since!
After what seemed like forever, I finally was able to get it out using a small skinny sawblade. Tried to use needle nose pliers but they were too bulky to fit in that far.

Plugs doesn't look bad.. I'm wondering if that grommet was causing the coilpack to sit funky and not getting a good spark and thats the cause of your poor MPG.
also the gap looks awful wide... I think it's suppose to be at 0.36? it's been a while.. =P

Yea that was what I was thinking about for the grommet, maybe was interfering a bit.
I think I asked Mike a long time ago about the gap and said to go with .028 which is what these old plugs where gapped to and also my new ones I put in yesterday.

It's from .028-.030 I usually go with the tighter gap of .028 so you're good!
