I have this problem with my '13 Tribeca. I had the problem with my '12 WRX, until I switched to Motul

yep. I thought I was an isolated incident until I talked to Jeff about it.
I'm currently dealing with oil consumtion (on my SG) with an engine rebuilt to OEM specs.
It doesn't surprise me that newer cars are reporting issues after my experience.

I've had three subarus and they all consumed oil. No smoke or leaks though.

it's not so much a matter of "consuming oil" , it's the excessive consumption which is the problem. it's much higher than any normal amount

What weight oil are the new subies running? I know a lot of other companies are switching to 0w20 and 5w20...really thin oil for mpgs

I'm running 5w40 and 10w40 and I don't burn that much oil haha older subies ftw

I have 3 Subies, an 02 WRX, an 05 STI and a 2011 WRX, only the 05 STI burns oil, about a qt or so every 3K, the 02 & 2011 do not burn any oil between changes.
Running Amsoil 5-30

I also have a VF-23 on an internally stock EJ20. I check my oil every fill up and sometimes in between and this car does not use/burn a drop. I check it so much because this is really weird. Each of my other Imprezas before did - my '03 WRX used at least 1qt every 3k miles. This 2002 WRX does not. But then, I am using Mobil1 10-40.

Heh..

But seriously, the only difference is that this one has had a catch can on it since 2002. Maybe that makes a difference - dunno.

All my Subarus have burned insane amounts of oil. Right now my current car is burning through a quart every 1k miles.

2014 forester and newer Outbacks have all been complaining about this for a while.

Mine normally does not burn much, but I was beating on it for like a week and it ate a quart in that one week. Back to normal driving and no more missing oil.

We traded our 2011 in mainly because it burned oil like crazy and it stank. You'd be sitting at a light and it would smell and sound like an 80's diesel benz.

We took it in probably 5 times. It's all good they'd say.

Got tired of it. Traded it in. We have a 2015.

I just put 1.5 quarts of oil in it this morning because the oil light came on. 3200 miles on the car...

They changed from that retarded 0-20 oil which was smart but apparently did nothing. My opinion.... there's a damned good reason cars stopped using the oil filter location and system that they're using 50 years ago.

Seriously... my 1953 caddy runs pretty much the same damned system but it's a different filter style.

If we have the kind of problems with this one that we had with the other one I'm going to be pissed. My wife's next car will probably be a honda if that's the case. I buy her what I buy her so I don't have to **** with it.
