I have owned 3 other N/A Imprezas and they have all burned oil. My friend's 2002 WRX also uses oil. I have come to know this is normal for these cars.
My 2002 WRX was bought brand new by a buddy of mine in 2001, and that car was raped out of the parking lot. There was no concept of break-in. This is the only Subaru I have ever owned that still looks good on the dip-stick after 4k miles. I have never had to add oil to this engine between oil changes. I still check it every fuel stop because I do not believe it, but, it's true.
All I am saying is that has been my experience.
Now, about this guy driving, I think the car even shed a tear on that clutch engagement. I don't think that fellow did the car any favors, and I am in NO WAY trying to justify the way he was driving or anything that he said or did. I have watched a few of these reviews, and I often wonder why the particular reviewer was the person that was chosen to talk about the car. Like the other guy that was yanking the car left and right on a straight road talking about how great the turn-in was. GAAAAHHHH STAAAAAHP.

my 2004 drank the same. ~1qt. every 3-4k miles. around 160k it started chugging. At one point toward the end I went 5k without checking and maybe half a quart came out. That is when I put a new engine in, around 172k miles IIRC.
Since the new motor (new short block and new heads from santa cruz Subaru) I have put ~25k miles on it with almost no oil consumption.
My next car i'm just going to drive it like I do now but keep the RPM punching less frequent.

I think the hard break in method can be fine but people trying to claim it makes the car faster or better are completely retarded. I think not following the break in is simply lazy and people are welcome to justify it however they want.

Email me a bunch of picts of your car. Liveluv121@yahoo.com.
I'll print em out and give em to my neighbor. Haven't been able to line up schedules. LOL.
It sounds like he wants to buy something between now and the end of May.
