first year LaBaron used them, as do all models of the Lamborghini Countach. Oddly the Lambo uses a push/pull setup, made by Spal of course. Of course you also find them OEM in a ton of large rigs (push/pull), heavy equipment (again push/pull) and almost all modern military setups.
Keep in mind, your fallacy of "if it worked, they would do it from the factory" is wrong, OEM is done to keep costs down, or...did Subaru start putting forged pistons in from the factory and I missed the memo?

How are you at 3000+? even with my 4.44's and -1 sized tires (overall) from OEM, I am at exactly 3000@70mph

You can either go 6 speed or try to find the unicorn like me (jdm ra 5 speed with dccd and r180 diff with the better case TY754s). 6 speed is likely the easier option with them being readily available. Also if you can find a r160 3.9 rear diff from a manual 2.2L impreza, you can slap that on with a jdm 6 speed and keep your axles/hubs for the cheapest route.

wait...hold up a moment. You do understand that 4.44 final drive ratio is SHORTER than the 3.90 your car came with yes? That means the 4.44 is going to be at a higher RPM than your OEM going down the freeway.
