Big Island lava flow - Pu'u O'o lava headed into Puna

In case anyone has friends/family out on the south-east side of the Big Island in the area known as Puna. The lava flow is headed toward the town I used to live near, where I graduated high school. It is currently threatening HWY 130 which is literally the only road out of that area.

These sites have current and updated news:

USGS Updated maps showing the flow:

Send your thoughts and prayers. These people have already been through the *Puna Geothermal Venture outgassing - pumping Hydrogen Sulfide into the air, then a hurricane, and now lava is coming.

No family on that side of the island (good friend on the Northeast side of the island). That looks super sketchy. I hope everyone/thing comes out OK. We'll be on the big island in November. I was hoping to see some lava flows (we missed out last time) but I was hoping for lava hitting the ocean, not towns .

Oh snap, hope it doesn't turn into another Kalapana.

Buddy already has their place packed up and ready to move everything out now, lives right near Railroad and Kahakai (Hawaiian Shores). Historical flow from 1840's went through there last time he said. Pretty much is expecting all of his neighborhood to get wiped out if the flow stays on the same valley path.

It's headed right for P-Town right now. No idea how it will turn out but cannot even imagine what this must be like for them right now. Just hang out and watch while at the very least, life becomes very hard. Nuts watching those vids as I recognize a lot of people, and most of those vids were in my old HS cafeteria. The lady (Pi'i) doing the prayers and telling the punatiks what-for is my friend's auntie and a pretty cool lady. Her house was destroyed at Kalapana, and her mom's in 1959. But she says to give thanks for the time you had in paradise, and stand back watch while the goddess cleans her house. Personally I took that to mean that Nanawale was going to get wiped off the map...

Yeah, it's not looking good over there. I had property on Pohoiki Rd for years but sold it in the boom and moved up to Waimea. Back in Cali now but feeling for the Punatiks....

The slow, relentless advance of this flow is like a disaster I slow motion. Not at all like a tornado or hurricane. Anyone have friends/relatives still in the area?

So a Hurricane hits, and than a month later the lava flows. Damn
At least my family is on the North side.
