Air Filter : metal mesh vs other filters

does anyone have any legitimate non bias articles or sources to testings for stainless steel mesh filter like blitz vs other types of filters?

I cant seem to find any test comparisons that didnt feel like they were selling a certain product.

so the debate goes both ways and all around of which is the "best"

what i am looking for are test backed results and not just personal opinions since.. that would just lead back to the circle of non factual statements.

very curious of what the results actually are.

I did however find this one article that mentions that metal filters became obsolete for a reason, but nothing else besides that statement.

Nothing wrong with the OE paper filter. I've dynoed foam filters on other cars and found them to help, but not enough to justify the cost usually, other than the fact that you will never really change it again.

I'd much rather have well-filtered air in my engine than 0.2 more HP. Unless you are a track monster, keep the stock box and OEM or decent aftermarket paper filter. Change every year, move on with life.

Dyno showed a +2hp peak difference, but that's within the margin of error, so it is hard to say the filter was 100% responsible. Plus in our cars with the MAF right there, you're better off not having an oiled filter IMO.

I had a very good automotive engineer tell me that the only way an oiled (K&N) style filter flows better than paper is that it lets more stuff through.

I guess the metal mesh could keep the filter from deforming, but in an airbox, not sure that actually buys you anything
