Too lazy to post a link, I'm sure someone will. I'm pretty excited about it though. 6pot/4pot bright green/yellow brembo brakes, 19in wheels, Recaro seats, new front bumper and grill. Same EJ, but I do like what Subaru is now forced to do since Ford and VW are directly competing. Maybe these cool new things are somewhat standard? a trim level? or just an expensive option.

Seats, a painted BBK (on the fronts only) and 19" wheels = cool? You could do that to last year's model and pretty much have the same exact car... Hell, I'm sure there's a build log somewhere that already did.

Yes, I'm serious. Yes, same EJ as I said before. Yes, the EJ is old and we're tired of it.
I owned a WRX and STI's in different years, an M3, some nice cozy commuters, but my '16 STI was the best car I've ever owned. Some simple mods it was fast enough, its practical, comfortable, reliable. Loved the EJ25, Loved the trans, truly nothing I didn't like.
Adding what they just added is exciting. I'm sorry people aren't impressed until they swap in a 8cyl TT diesel Boxer motor making 500+ torque with 40+ MPG with a completely new drivetrain system.
Just because is old doesn't mean its ****. It just needs a little motor update. But until then this is a great car!

And just to be clear, I know I quoted you on that last post, that was just my thoughts on the current model years.
Perhaps a rant on everyone asking why people are still buying these cars today.

Really need to bring back the big *** fog lights. Just doesn't feel like a subaru with those whack plastic cheese grater grills. Do solid covers or fog lights.
Still no hatch. Still no real turbo wagons.
Subaru is out of their ****ing minds.
It's basically become all about the base model impreza, the forester platform and the outback platform. The performance models are taking a back seat... again.
But I wasn't expecting a massive overhaul this year anyways.
They do need to bring the damned Levorg over here. That would make me happy. I honestly have zero interest in replacing my wagon with anything but possibly an 08 forester xt. Nothing new interests me. They're nice... but no wagon... no sale.

Not that it is related to the STI, but when I was at the dealer around the holiday he said they now have Manual XVs!! Though I think it only comes in that hyper blue. Now it just needs boost... The XV Creek gave my as a loaner whil working on my car was actually pretty nice.

We thought about getting the woman a leggy 3.6R. Aside from that, she'd either get that or a Levorg. There is literally nothing else in the lineup that would keep me as a return customer. As much as I loved my STI, it'd take a new powerplant and another wagon + 400hp to get me to buy another Subaru. I got tired of waiting and moved on.

...and I was digging that it came with Recaros...until i realized they really don't look much different than the stock GD seats for thigh bolstering, in the sense that I would be sliding everywhere while cornering, since i'm a LAM (little asian man)...

In terms of Subarus, my wife and I went from an '03 Bugeye Wagon, a '12 Legacy, to a '15 STI and we now have an '05 STI.
You can definitely tell that Subaru has increased the level of refinement across the years, making the cars more livable and suitable as daily drivers, with the '15 STI being the nicest of the bunch. However, even "nice" by Subaru standards isn't all that great IMO compared to what you could get in similarly priced cars from other manufacturers. For instance, for the same price you pay for a '15 STI ($36k-40k) you could have gotten an IS200t F-Sport, Q50 or maybe a 328i, all of which would have been much nicer, and except for the Lexus, probably not too far off from a stock STI in terms of everyday usable performance.
That said, where the STI has excelled is maintaining a very high level of driver engagement - lots of things still feel very analog and communicative. So, I think Subaru has done a pretty good job of maintaining that level of engagement, while trying to also improve the fit, finish and creature comforts making the car more appealing to a broader market. Now, a lot of us on here are more enthusiast-oriented, and would probably be willing to trade a lot of those refinements for more performance, and that's a fair point, but I think the reality is that that would mean they'd sell less of these cars overall.
