Entercom wants to attract an older crowd. Big time companies like Budweiser weren't interested in advertising with them when they had the 18-24 demographic.

So they fired all of the DJs and changed their programing. There will be DJs later but for now I like it without them. Entercom did this at another station they own in Chicago.

Nick Monroe got a phat check when they let him go. Not sure how the other personalities made out.

Damn, I remember when KWOD and 93 Rock were the best stations in Sac. At least 98 Rock is still around (and still playing teh butt rock).

KWOD 2.0 (in my opinion) is much better than before. THe music is actually diverse instead of derivatives of creed and puddle of mud type bands with annoying DJ's. The only DJ on the old kwod I miss is Nick Monroe. But I like 2.0 way better.

Yeah it really has gone down hill. Anybody remember the days when Mark S. Allen was a dj there? Man that was a long time ago. I think I was in elementary school or junior high then.

it's ok now. the few commercials is nice but i liked listening to nick munroe. plus they play so much less of the new stuff now. it's becoming an 80's and 90's station. i do listen to there streaming music off their website at work. it's not bad.

KWOD 2.0? More like 3.0 or 4.0. Nick Monroe started about the same time KWOD started going seriously downhill. The original KWOD sucked, when they used to play New Kids on the Block and crap like that. Then they switched to modern rock and played cool **** like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Marilyn Manson and etc. Nick was like version 3 and even though he wasn't bad, he kind of signaled the downfall of KWOD.

I couldn't agree with you more! I am soooooo in the mood for more Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit type music.

Seriously, the stuff they were playing was played out just like shirts with flames on them and anything with "insert city or county here" Choppers. I like KWOD now much better but that is probably because I am old.

Eh, it's ok. I don't really listen to the radio much so I haven't heard a lot of it. I like that it has fewer commercials - It pisses me off when I turn on a station like 98 Rock when I'm leaving work, and they don't start playing music until I'm turning on to my street, 15+ minutes later

the new kwod sucks big donkey balls. now my commutes to work are ALOT more boring. i am literally falling asleep. before i would actually like to listen to the dj's and be entertained. now i have to listen to the fat pig behind the mic saying, "welcome to new kwod version 2.0".

i used to listen to kwod way back. at some point their morning program was pretty much the same playlist and order every single day. the same songs at the same times... it sucked.

I had a friend who's dad was high up at 93/98 Rock, and I'd hear stories like that from him from all over the country.

It happens, esp. when the big compaines like Clear Channel come in. It sucks balls.

They did that to an old bay area station called KOME. 98.5 I think.
They fired everyone put the radio robot but then later on disappeared.

I talked to Nick Monroe and he said he had an idea they were about to get ****canned but it was pretty damn sudden.

I'm not friends with Nick but he's a good guy and nowhere near the ******* he played on KWOD. I know him because he bought into the same Beach Hut Deli restaurant me and my family bought into. His restaurant is off J st where the old "True Love" café used to be. You see some short, balding guy with a heavy accent making your sandwich and that's him.

KWOD started going downhill after they fired Nick the first time..early 90's...tried it again the other day & kinda like it.
Nick is a funny guy...rode up with him to Kirkwood for a KWOD day in the snow.
That ****er can drink.

That was Nick. Sorta scruffy looking. And yes, the workers are cute. Hopefully are workers are up to par with them.

Because they serve beer in there he's had a problem with younger kids asking for some. Sucks because these kids think they have some sort of connection to him when he just wants to make the restaurant work.

My biggest grip with 2.0 is the stupid RDS tags the use. Instead of "<artist> - <track>" it's "Now playing on KWOD 2.0 Radio without rules <artist> - <track>"

Makes my display scroll and gets on my nerves.

the new KWOD has resurrected some of my faith in Sacto radio. i especially couldn't stand morning radio around here...many a morning i would drive to work and not hear a single song! it was all just inane djs trying to be entertaining, but failing miserably most of the time. morning djs are not a bad idea, but when the talking outweighs the music, it's not something i enjoy. now it's mostly music, which is what FM radio should be.

it's still nowhere near the quality of Seattle radio though...if you like the direction KWOD's going in, check out the best radio station ever...Seattle's Original Alternative: 107.7 The End (1077theend.com). They started streaming online last month finally, so you can pass some time at work by listening to quality rock radio. Their morning show is the perfect blend of music and dj, and that trend continues through the day.

Dis,

Dead on man, dead on... I hate morning DJ's, especially Rob, Arnie and whoever the hell they are this week and the rise guys. Seattle radio is the best man, KEXP for me, luckily I get the web stream at home.

wow i just got home and this thread has a lot of replies. i agree with some that they are playing more music. but the music they play is crap. i swear i heard disco the other day. then i heard someone playing a piano and moaning into the microphone. but i guess it appeals to the older crowd

yeah, KEXP rocks as well. I prefer The End just because I know more of the songs that they play. But KEXP is a close second, and even the Funky Monkey is still cool occasionally.
