VelvetD 02-17-2003, 06:08 PM I hope thats just a sketch, that thing look hideous
flanagan 02-17-2003, 06:28 PM There is just a hint of Alfa in that sketch...
VelvetD 02-17-2003, 06:33 PM definatly...an Alfa crossed with the new celica...
HomerJay 02-17-2003, 06:39 PM Yeah. You sure it's not a Alfa or a Peugeot? ;)
STLscooby 02-17-2003, 07:07 PM If it runs with the STi performance wise, I see my new car:)
D
VelvetD 02-17-2003, 07:10 PM I hate to say it but if Subaru goes with a design close to that...I'm gonna think about switching to a differen car company...thats just too hideous...course I hated the WRX design when it first came out...
go go go 02-17-2003, 07:35 PM yes the chief designer of Subaru, Andreas Zapatinas is ex-Alfa designer. He designed Alfa 147 and Fiat Barchetta.
Hmmm no wonder..
I welcome this move personally, of course as long as it carries the performance of the current Subaru.
I did a little photochop
maybe it helps to relate the sketch to Subaru
VelvetD 02-17-2003, 07:39 PM that helped quite a bit, that doesn't look too bad, though it's only a sketch and it's the middle part of the grill that looks like crap.
joltdudeuc 02-17-2003, 08:08 PM no trapazoid grille, no subie

flanagan 02-17-2003, 09:58 PM I did a quick (hour or so) rendering of what the front 3/4 could look like based on the sketch. You can tell that Japanese auto makers tend to have their cars designed from this view.
Sean
EDIT: also keep in mind that I wasnt paying too much attention to detail, so things are missing and errantly rendered...
WRXSTIle 02-18-2003, 12:30 AM Subaru already has a beutiful 4 seater coupe sports car...The SVX they should just start producing that again, Fix the tranny problems, make it available in a manual.
Sure they could give it a bit of a overhaul in the interior and slap on some turbo but otherwise the car is pretty much timeless.
legacy2003 02-18-2003, 02:46 PM the rendering of that ugly sketch made the car look a lot better. let's hope it atleast looks close to that. otherwise, i don't know what i'd do. i just hope they don't do an overhaul and make every model based on that in the coming years, especially the legacy :)
legacy2003 02-18-2003, 02:47 PM btw, i would have to agree with WRXSTIle, the svx is definately timeless... they should really start making that car again.

exactly! I was pretty disappointed when the just about every model ended up looking like the WRX, was like...did the designers just get lazy all of a sudden
X1_SRT 02-20-2003, 09:30 AM i agree with the others. i think a comeback of the SVX would be awsome. i mean they did it w/ the stinkin Brat! but yeah, get those transmission gremlins fixed! i know a guy that owns one, he's had 3 rebuilt trannys in it, and one of them rebuilt again. its ridiculous. but i like the car alot otherwise. by the way, the rendering of the sketch looks much better. i just want to know how you did that?!?
flanagan 02-20-2003, 09:59 AM Drawing and rendering skills learned from 4 years in a good industrial design program helped me do that! Seriously, though, it just takes a little imagination and some markers (or Illustrator and Photoshop in this case). It's just a different approach to the sketch rendering shown on the main page, same principles. If you can color in the lines (and sometimes not) you can render.
Sean
PS Digressing on the thread...
I agree with the SVX sentiment. Subaru lost something when they got rid of the Impreza coupe, and hopefully this new "concept" car will satisfy the void left by the coupe's absence.
X1_SRT 02-20-2003, 10:05 AM hey i guess college is good for something after all!!!

Phil Chapman 02-21-2003, 04:33 PM I agree with jolt dude. This look is too much of a departure from the family look. Wouldn't be such a bad thing if it weren't leaning so close to Alfa.
danci1973 02-22-2003, 10:08 AM OMG, they've done it again...
First, they made the back of the Forester look like a Volvo, now they'll make a new Impreza (or whatever) look like an Alfa !?
I really like Subarus and I think the Legacy is a beatifull car (especially the BG). So were the pre-bugeye Imprezas, especially the wide-body WRX versions.
I also think the SVX was an awesome car and it still turns my head when I see one! Common Subaru, take it from there, don't take if from someone else!!
D.
o4wrxSTi 02-26-2003, 10:17 PM it'll be a sad and disgraceful day in impreza history if that car makes it through :(
sub-newbie 02-27-2003, 04:53 AM Ewww... Subaru ate Honda's bad apple! I like WRX's style because it is sporty and rugged. Seems like companies nowadays are trying to make cars that look like big toads! (thinking the "new" Honda Civic and RSX v.s. the old Civic and Integra styles). I guess I'd better hang onto my old cars:)

haa haa...that is so true. It may be because I'm a tried and true Sube owner but what the hell is up with Hondas new "G Funk" emblem??? that thing is freakin HUGE...
shaft73 03-04-2003, 08:49 AM Here's the official pic of the concept.
shaft73 03-04-2003, 08:51 AM first the altezzas, now the RX-8!
WRXSTIle 03-04-2003, 05:48 PM Oooh I like it. I could do w/o the baby blue interior but I guess Subbie loves blue. Notice the suede. At least they took something from the SVX. Not all Subarus need to look like rally cars.
Wonder if it will really see production and how much will it be changed till ist gets there.
OK wheres the new forum thread.

Boneamania 06-13-2003, 01:41 PM alright i don't agree with the whole alfa and rx-8 stealage. why??? i understand subaru is trying to change its image from a totally mid 40 year old mother of 2+'s dream car, but come on. its almost like they are selling out. i love having a wrx CAUSE ITS A FAST 4 DOOR MOTHERS CAR!!! thats why its so bad ass. if i wanted a total sports car, i wouldn't buy a subaru, i would get a vette, or a 350z or any number of other sports cars(EXCEPT MUSTANGS!!! YUCK!)
i mean just think of how you make all the camaro's, mustangs, all the damn vroom vroom mazda's, benz, bmw's, audi's, ANY PONTIAC!(i strongly dislike pontiac) owners feel. especally young kids who have there dads stang that can't keep up. subaru's aren't expected to go fast, BUT some do!! thats what i think makes it great, the sleeper aspect.
maybe its just me. but subaru should stick with its stealthy middle aged woman look to a certain extent. atleast so you can see the old subey in it somewhere. not like this RX-8 with out the rotary, that got a face lift from Alfa himself.
Sooberman 08-16-2003, 04:40 AM Reminds me of a smiling pig.:p
MELBA 08-28-2003, 07:10 AM Yet another FUGLY design from Subaru. If they take away the performance there will be no reason to buy their cars anymore.
Ventral 09-13-2003, 01:15 AM :( WHats wrong with the current modle that looks good just fix it up a little and it will e perfect concept car.:(
