04/05 springs on 02 wagon
I'm currently running Prodrive springs and don't like how low the front is. I get hard crash-through on rough roads and the front facia scrapes on parking stones. My plan is to use USDM 04/05 STI pink wagon springs with Koni strut inserts and STI stiffer mounts.
I now have all the parts and have test fit a rear 04/05 top mount to a Koni strut rod. The newer style mount does not slide onto the tennon (threaded part) past the shoulder, it stops at the base of the thread where the unthreaded tennon shank starts. I could drill or ream out the mounts a bit to accommodate the larger tennon shank, but there is still a grip length issue. The new mount is only a few milimeters thick and the tennon is too long to grip the short mount inner metal. I read in another thread that some people are using washers to space up the nut. I would rather make a spacer to do this. The part I'm unsure of is if the spacer should go above the mount or below. Or perhaps I need two spacers, each half the difference in thickness between the older and newer style mounts.
Does anyone have an 02/03 rear top mount that they can take some measurements of for me? I need to know the inner metal height which is gripped by the strut rod tennon and I need to know the distance from the inner metal to the flat mounting surface of the mount where is interfaces with the car body. With these two measurements I can determine how much spacer height is needed and if it needs to be above, below or both.
Also, does anyone know if the lower spring seat is at the same height on the strut body. I suppose if the 02/03 springs and mounts are giving the proper car height when used on an 04/05 vehicle, then doing the reverse should work out as well.
The other thing I'm considering is to send back the rear springs and mounts and to use my Prodrive rear springs with a new set of 02/03 rear STI top mounts. Do you think the Prodrives in the rear would be too low to match up with the pinks in the front?
