Holy ****ing Gas Prices!!

My goodness, the price of gas is getting juuuuust a little crazy.
Yesterday morning, the gas station I drive by had Super Unleaded for $2.599/gal.
Last night, same station had increased to $2.699/gal.
This morning, $2.899/gal. !!

When will this madness end!?

Also, I saw this morning, that the fuel line that runs from Sac to Reno (Which supplies 90% of our GAS) has ruptured, and we are in danger of running out of gas. There are several stations in town who have no gas left already...wonderful timing.

I'm not too worried about it.

Fun car to drive: 91 octane: $3.00/gal
Boring *** **** mobile: 87 octane: $2.70/gal

x 14.5 gal (typical fill up)

== $4.50

I'll just eat at home one extra night a week

Interesting comparison. Think of it by the miles though.

I drove 400 miles this last week...20mpg (that's my avg). That's 20 gallons...@ $2.60/gal, it's effectively $52 of gas.

My other car gets 35mpg on 87oct, so assuming the same mileage, it's 11.43gal...@ $2.40/gal, it's effectively $27.43 of gas.

I save $24.57 in one week by driving the other car. Sure, I hear you on the fun factor, but 20mpg/91oct/14gal fillups are no fun right now. Also, Civic hatches are fun little cars, albeit slow.

Thats like $100 a month, or nearly $1200 bucks a year. So, if I bought a beater for $2k-$3k, it would only take 2-3 years to get my money's worth (not counting repairs or other maintaince).

Not knocking your theory, I actually quite like it. I just can't afford a beater right now.

That's why I have yet to purchase a second vehicle. I considered it a while back, but I did the math and came to that same realization. If we get a second car, it won't be to save on gas, but to have a small truck to carry things like bikes or what not

Not a theory at all, that was quite a valid comparison. The cars I got those numbers from are my '02 WRX and my '93 EG (Civic) hatchback.

Also, the 20mpg on the WRX was my observed average!

As for maintenace, if someone like me can do a major tuneup on a Honda, I'm sure everyone else here can as well. Honda parts are also a dime a dozen on CL.

It's an EH. Check the VIN.
