I'm impressed. Its a quality piece of electronics. It did cost me a kidney, my biggest complaint. Other complaints include the control surface, it is an extension of the transparent cover for the screen and is glossy so it smudges with fingerprints easily. It would have been nice had it just been textured plastic (although it looks slick). The start/pause button is completely useless if you are trying to pause a game to say, I dunno scratch your nose. Its too far away from your right thumb. The included white lanyard is ghey, I swapped it with the one from my sons Nintendo DS. Now the good stuff.....

The screen is top notch, I have yet to encounter one with such high quality in a portable consumer electronic device. The included accessories are nice and useful (excluding the aforementioned ghey lanyard) but the softcase has no room for any of them unfortunately. The SpiderMan2 movie included is DVD quality. The flexibility of the device is very appealing. I look forward to getting a 2 gig card and burning DVD's, pictures and music onto it. I would be even more pleased if they had an affordable UMD burner but unless the UMD is used on other Sony devices I doubt that will ever happen.

I have not used the wireless networking capabilities yet, though I do have a wireless network in my home. I see some sort of web browsing software available for it in the near future. The ergonomics of the PSP make using the controls and positioning the screen for best viewing a constant struggle as with any handheld gaming device. I find it best if I sit upright and put both elbows on my knees while I lean over the PSP. Otherwise I'm not comfortable for anything more than a few minutes playing it. The analog "stick" is very well done as are the other buttons. Screen Brightness is good and you can shut the screen off and lock the buttons for MP3 player mode when you have it in your pocket, the included headphones and remote are handy for that. It has a USB port so I forsee a lot of peripherals in the works, like a digicam. I'll get a camera and post some in game pics soon. Maybe I'll sell another kidney and get some more games. Actually I traded in a few games as well as putting about 70 bux down when I reserved it so it wasn't that bad.


I bought Ridge Race for it, for lack of any better racing game. I can't wait until GT4 mobile is released, although I hear that the JDM version will play in the USDM PSP.
The graphics are amazing, 60 FPS and a very sharp and smooth 128 bits. Gameplay is simple and addictive. I've been a fan of the series since the first PS (its one of the reasons I bought the PS). Lack of "grip" driving modes is annoying but the depth and features make up for it. No licensed cars but I can't say if I miss them since its an arcade style racer.

LOL! Trade in all of the games and dvd's you don't use anymore at gamestop and get one. Its my new favorite toy! I gotta start saving up for the xbox2 and the ps3 now. I'd be surprised if Sony does not sell a million of them in the first few days. The price will probably come down in a year or two but demand is strong and anyone that waits will be, well....waiting. :p

The thing has a three brightness settings, four if you have it plugged in to an AC adapter. On its highest setting its pretty impressive and the 16:9 aspect ratio is perfect for handheld racing games, you can actually see to your left or right when you are making a turn!

GT4 Mobile Should be out in May I believe, if you can't wait they say that a Japanese version will work in the US PSP. I haven't heard about a steering wheel for this thing. Kinda defeats the purpose of portable if you asked me.

Yeah I was kidding about the wheel. :) I always get excited about handhelds, end up buying them and never using them. I am probably gonna pass on this one unless they introduce some killer app for it.

Ok, I'm really tempted to check out the PSP. What stores in the area have them in stock and what's the average price for the standalone unit/starter kit?

Also, how's the battery life? I'd like to get at least 4-5 hours on a charge playing games.

I have also picked up one of these the first day it was released here (24th). Whenever I am playing it people stop and ask questions and are in awe with the quality, look, and multitude of options( I have heard they will release a nav system for it to play in your car).

As far as price, it may seem $$$ but when you look at it closer its a great deal for the technology. Remember the first color cell phones? $400 bucks. or what about the new razr cell phone that just dropped from $500 to $349. The cell phone has no room for a 4 gig card, cant play dvd quality movies, or do a fraction of other things( there is also a cell phone adapter kit being made for it as well so it can be a cell phone too. rather large though). Compared to most new electronics, $249 is a wonderful price.

About the use of the UMD's, Sony's PS3 will most likely have a slot for them as well as a UMD burner. I have heard from many that you will be able to burn UMD's and at 1.8 gigs per disk it sounds like a pretty sweet idea.

The WI FI system is great! I have played and own both Wipeout Pure and Lumines. I have never been cut off of a 2 player WI FI race or puzzle match yet. I even connected to the internet via WI FI to see if any new updates for the software was out or if the browser was up for d/l yet, but no to both.

All in all this is one wicked little piece. One of my favorite features is the battery info which displayes % charge and time left on current battery life. So easy.

The only draw back to the system is it doesnt come with a screen protector( I bought one from EB for $4.99) and the 1 gig cards are $149.99 (Sandisk) so the 4 gig sony's will be close to $900.00 which is way too much considering the I pod can hold a 60 gig drive and costs half that.

I also bought some Piaa Super Plasma h3 fog lights, denso Iridium plugs and some Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S so it has been a nice week for gifts from me to me.

Gamestop told me to check back on Monday, today, that is. But since I ordered a 1GB memory stick online, I just lumped the game order with it...

As far as online price searches, froogle works well for pretty much anything you'd ever want to buy/look to buy online. Gamespot has a price search as well, as I'm sure most other big gaming sites do too...

Gamestop off of Greenback and Sunrise has a used Metal Gear Ac!d in, but right before I bought it he said "You know this is a turn based game?" I hadn't realized that so i was asking about it. He said it's basically like a card game with cool animation, but it's not FPS at all. It's going for $35 and they're open till 9pm if you're interested.

Also, they said GT4PSP prolly won't be out until around December, just in time for the Christmas rush.
