Well, I mean, IF the phone company truly does inform their customers multiple times about the need to sign up for the emergency number service seperately, I don't see the grounds for the suit.
Though it does seem odd that they don't offer it as a base. I thought it was pretty much standard.

There should be no reason at all that someone should be able to deny 911 service in their house. It should be everywhere there is a phone without having to ask.
911 shouldn't be something you set up it should just be there.

Yeah, I never had to (knock on wood)call for myself but I did for a domestic dispute, because my buddy lived next to a bar, they came lightning quick! But I live in Napa so I'm sure they,re pretty bored.

I used to work in an emergency dispatch center. People talking **** about the 911 process itself need to shut the hell up.
Complain about resources on the streets, that cops are slow to respond, whatever, but the people in 911 are doing one of the most stressful jobs out there. Try to have someone screaming at you on one hand, deleiver emergency medical advice, coordinate multiple resources (ambulance, police, helicopters, fire equipment) and backfill those resources so you still retain coverage over your response area..........and then talk.
I used to coordinate air tanker strikes and unit coverage for 3 counties with some of the highest wildfire rates in the country, and I've been on the phones when one of my best friend's mothers called in because his dad was dying of a heart attack, when people I know have been in car accidents, when I've knowingly sent men and women into situation where people die.
Talk ****, but think about what it would be like if they weren't there.

I've called a couple times in a couple different cities. Columbus was asinine, a mentally handicapped guy had his wheelchair break and ended up head first in the street from the sidewalk. I explained this all to the 991 op, then they put me thru to the fire dept. whom I had to explain it to all over again! Eventually we ended up flagging down a fire truck that was passing by.
Other was for my accident, cops took forever, but that's just because that's what they do in my city.
Last time was when my neighbor had a heart attack in his driveway, response time was actually pretty good.
